Surfers Paradise is the only address on the Gold Coast where the street layout itself is worth a paragraph. The precinct is a tight grid of one-way streets between the highway and the beach, several of them closing entirely for events and the difference between a driver who knows which way each one runs and a driver following a satnav is a genuine five minutes on a morning when you don’t have five minutes.
That’s the practical case for a local operator here more than anywhere else we collect from. This guide covers both airports and honest drive times, then deals with the two things specific to this address: getting out of the grid and the two periods a year when Surfers stops behaving like a normal suburb.
- ✔ A fixed $90 sedan to OOL, $200 sedan to BNE — GST included
- ✔ Gateway Motorway toll inside the Brisbane price
- ✔ Drivers who know the one-way grid and the event detours
- ✔ Collection at the reception driveway, coordinated with the front desk
- ✔ Flight monitored on every airport pickup, wait time not charged
- ✔ Child seats provided and fitted, $35 per seat
About Meriton Suites Surfers Paradise
Meriton Suites Surfers Paradise is a high-rise apartment hotel in the heart of the Surfers precinct, a short walk from the beach, Cavill Avenue and the tram. The format sits between a hotel and a serviced apartment — a staffed reception and daily housekeeping alongside one, two and three-bedroom suites with full kitchens, laundries and separate living areas.
Facilities typically include a pool, gym and on-site parking. Suite configurations, facility access and reception hours change over time — confirm current details directly with the property when you book your stay.
Guest mix here skews differently to Broadbeach. Surfers pulls a younger holiday crowd, a steady stream of interstate weekenders and a solid corporate contingent midweek, which spreads departures across the week rather than clustering them on Sunday mornings. It also means the precinct around the building is livelier at night than a quieter address and that shapes the practical side of a transfer more than the drive does.
Quick answer: Meriton Suites Surfers Paradise is a high-rise apartment hotel in the Surfers Paradise precinct. It is about 25 km from Gold Coast Airport and about 78 km from Brisbane Airport.

Getting out of the Surfers grid
The bit that makes this address different. Surfers Paradise is laid out as a dense grid of narrow, largely one-way streets running between the Gold Coast Highway and the Esplanade, with the tram line down the middle of the highway restricting where a vehicle can turn. Getting from a driveway in the middle of that to a southbound highway lane is rarely a straight line and the correct approach changes depending on which side of the block you’re on and what’s closed that day.
A driver who works this precinct knows the sequence without thinking about it. A driver following a satnav gets routed into a turn that no longer exists and onto a street that’s been closed for a market and loses several minutes correcting. On a normal Tuesday that’s an inconvenience; on a morning with a 6am flight it isn’t.
The practical upshot: the drive time to the airport from Surfers is only a few minutes longer than from Broadbeach, but the first five minutes of it are the least predictable of any address on the coast. We allow for it in the pickup time rather than the fare.

Meriton Suites Surfers Paradise to Gold Coast Airport (OOL)
Quick answer: Gold Coast Airport is about 25 km south. A private transfer takes 30–40 minutes in normal traffic and costs a fixed $90 for a sedan, $120 for a Kia Carnival — GST included, price locked at booking. Airport pickups in the reverse direction are quoted separately.
The vehicle clears the precinct grid, then heads south on either the Gold Coast Highway through the beach suburbs or the M1, depending on what’s moving at the time. The driver makes that call on the morning rather than committing in advance.
Traffic on this route
Two things to know. The first five minutes are the precinct itself, which is unpredictable for the reasons above and worst on event weekends. After that it’s the standard southern run and the beachfront suburbs between Mermaid and Palm Beach congest on weekday afternoons from roughly 3pm to 6pm. A trip that takes 30 minutes at 10am can take closer to 50 in that window. We route via the M1 where that’s faster and widen the margin where it isn’t. Your quoted price doesn’t move either way.
Weekend nights
Thursday through Sunday evenings the precinct fills and the streets immediately around the building carry pedestrian traffic and slow-moving cars. It affects departure more than the run itself. Late-evening flights out of OOL are common from Surfers and worth allowing a little extra for.
Meriton Suites Surfers Paradise to Brisbane Airport (BNE)
Quick answer: Brisbane Airport is about 78 km north. A private transfer takes 65–85 minutes in normal traffic and costs a fixed $200 for a sedan, $260 for a Kia Carnival — Gateway Motorway toll and GST included, price locked at booking. Airport pickups in the reverse direction are quoted separately.
Northbound the route leaves the precinct, joins the M1 and runs to the Logan Motorway and then the Gateway Motorway for either terminal. Brisbane’s Domestic and International terminals are separate buildings several minutes apart, so specify which one at booking. The Gateway toll sits inside your quoted price.
Traffic on this route
Northbound weekday mornings carry commuter traffic from about 6am to 9am, which overlaps with most departure flights — allow toward the upper end of the range midweek. Southbound peaks from 3pm to 6:30pm. Friday is heaviest both ways and long weekends and school-holiday Fridays can push past 90 minutes. Pre-dawn runs are clear and the precinct is empty at that hour too, which makes an early Brisbane departure one of the smoothest transfers we do from Surfers.
Arriving at Brisbane Airport
On inbound legs an SMS reaches you before landing with the exact meet point and terminal instructions and your flight is monitored so an early or delayed arrival needs no call from you. Brisbane Airport pickups are quoted separately from the prices above — put both directions on one reservation and both figures are confirmed upfront before you pay.
Airport Comparison for Meriton Surfers Guests
| Factor | Gold Coast Airport (OOL) | Brisbane Airport (BNE) |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from the property | ~25 km | ~78 km |
| Typical drive time | 30–40 min | 65–85 min |
| Private sedan | approx. $90 | approx. $200 (toll included) |
| Kia Carnival | approx. $120 | approx. $260 |
| Airport to property | Quoted separately — access fee applies | Quoted separately — access fee applies |
| Route type | Highway or M1 south, toll-free | M1 north, Logan then Gateway Motorway, toll inside the quote |
| Best for | Domestic east-coast flights, New Zealand, some international | Broader international network, more airline choice |
| Airport arrival before departure | 2 hrs domestic / 3 hrs international | 2 hrs domestic / 3 hrs international, plus drive |
Gold Coast Airport wins clearly — roughly half the drive time and $105 less in a sedan, widening to. From Surfers the case for Brisbane is genuinely narrow: it earns the extra only when your airline, a direct international route or a materially better connection makes it. If both airports serve your route at comparable fares, OOL is the obvious answer from this address. Route detail for each sits on the Gold Coast Airport route hub and the Brisbane Airport route hub.
Fleet, Luggage and Pricing
Pricing is per vehicle, not per person. Slide or tap to compare capacity and both airport prices.
| Vehicle | Capacity | Luggage | To Gold Coast Airport (OOL) | To Brisbane Airport (BNE) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan or similar | 1–3 | Up to 2 large suitcases | a fixed $90 | a fixed $200 |
| 7-seat Kia Carnival | Up to 7 | Up to 6 large suitcases | a fixed $120 | a fixed $260 |
Need more than 7 seats? The 12-seat VW Transporter carries 8–11 passengers and up to 8 check-in suitcases plus 4 carry-on — quoted on request: call or message 0416 131 285 with your passenger count.
Every price includes GST and Brisbane runs include the Gateway toll. These are property-to-airport figures; airport pickups are quoted separately because inbound legs carry an airport access fee. Parties larger than 11 travel as multi-vehicle bookings on one reservation. An after-hours fee applies to pickups between 9pm and 6am; the prices shown assume standard-rate hours of 6am to 9pm.
Child seats
Queensland’s child restraint rules carry an exemption for booked hire and taxi services, so a seat is not mandatory in our vehicles — but we provide and fit them anyway at $35 per seat, itemised inside your locked quote. Rear-facing seats, forward-facing seats and boosters are all available, fitted and safety-checked before pickup, with up to 5 seats in the Kia Carnival. Full detail on our child seats page.
Boards, prams and oversized items
Surfers produces more surfboards than any other address we collect from and they don’t go in a sedan. Boards travel in the Carnival or Transporter — up to three in one or two bags alongside passengers and luggage. Prams travel on every vehicle. Bike boxes, golf bags and anything oversized need the Carnival as a minimum. Mention it at booking so the right vehicle arrives.
Event weekends and the two big periods
Surfers hosts more road-affecting events than anywhere else on the coast and two annual periods change the precinct entirely.
Event weekends. Motorsport, marathons, festivals and New Year all bring rolling street closures around the precinct, sometimes with the Esplanade and sections of the highway shut for extended periods. Event dates and affected streets change year to year, so check with the event organiser or the City of Gold Coast for current detail. On our side, the driver knows the diversions and the pickup time is widened to suit — mention at booking if you know something’s on and we’ll widen it further.
Schoolies, late November into December. The precinct fills with a large young crowd and the road environment changes significantly for a couple of weeks. Transfers run normally, but departures from Surfers during that period carry a wider margin as standard.
Christmas and New Year. The busiest stretch of the year for both the precinct and the airport. Vehicles book out well ahead, particularly Carnivals and Transporters. There’s no surge on our pricing at any point, but availability is genuinely finite — book early rather than the week before. A higher rate applies on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday only.
Private Transfer vs Rideshare, Taxi and Tram
| Option | To OOL | To BNE | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| CGC private transfer | approx. $90 sedan | approx. $200 sedan | Price locked at booking, driveway collection, drivers who know the grid and the detours |
| Rideshare | Dynamic pricing | Dynamic — long run, surge exposure | Coverage is the best on the coast, but Surfers is also where surge bites hardest — event nights and New Year especially |
| Taxi | Metered | Metered plus tolls | Ranks are close by, but the meter runs through the precinct crawl and the afternoon highway |
| Tram and bus | Tram south, then a bus connection | Tram north to Helensvale, then Airtrain | Stations are walkable and the Airtrain link works — impractical with a full apartment check-out |
Where rideshare falls down here specifically
Not availability — Surfers has the densest driver coverage on the coast and a car will arrive quickly most of the time. Two other things go wrong instead.
The first is surge. This precinct produces the sharpest demand spikes in the region: event nights, New Year, the end of schoolies, big weekends. Those are exactly the times people need to reach an airport and app pricing responds accordingly.
The second is the pin drop. In a grid of one-way streets with a tram line down the middle, the app’s suggested pickup point is frequently on the wrong side of a block from where you’re standing and the driver can’t simply turn around to reach you. A pre-booked driver comes to the reception driveway because that’s what’s written on the booking.
Practical Tips for Your Stay
Give us the flight number, not the check-out time
Pickups are calculated backwards from your flight — 2 hours before a domestic departure, 3 before an international, plus the drive and the precinct allowance. Working from check-out instead leaves you either at the terminal far too early or cutting it fine.
The pickup point
Transfers collect from the hotel driveway at the reception entrance, coordinated with the front desk. Provide your suite number at booking. Your SMS the night before carries the driver’s name, vehicle registration and pickup point and the timing already allows for getting down through the building.
Check-out and luggage storage
Check-out is typically mid-morning; confirm the current time with the property. If your flight is later, ask reception about luggage storage — a final swim or a walk down Cavill beats sitting in the lobby with your bags.
Very early departures
Worth one check with the property before a pre-6am flight: reception hours, lift access and lobby entry differ between buildings. Pre-dawn runs are the clearest of the day on both routes and the precinct is quiet, so the drive itself is the easy part.
Late-night arrivals
Surfers gets a lot of evening flights. On an inbound leg the flight is monitored, so a delay doesn’t need managing from the arrivals hall and meet and greet is included on Gold Coast Airport arrivals. Pickups after 9pm carry an after-hours fee, confirmed inside your quote before you pay.
Accessibility
For accessible suite configurations, lift access and pool facilities, contact the property directly — they hold the accurate current detail. Our vehicles are standard sedans, people movers and a Transporter; raise any particular access requirements for the transfer itself at booking so we can confirm what we can accommodate before you commit.
Groups across several suites
Common here given the three-bedroom layouts. If a group is spread across suites and leaving on different flights, multi-vehicle bookings run on one reservation with each vehicle timed to its own flight. Send the flight list and headcounts and we’ll build it out. Corporate accounts are available by prior approval — see corporate airport transfers.
How to Book
- Book online — select your airport and terminal, date, flight number and vehicle, with Meriton Suites Surfers Paradise as the pickup address.
- Add your suite number and type — one, two or three-bedroom, so the vehicle is sized to the likely luggage.
- Add any extras — child seats, boards, prams, oversized luggage or a second stop.
- Flag any event you know about — if there’s something on in the precinct that weekend, the margin gets widened.
- Pay by card at booking — the price is locked then. No in-car payment.
- Get your confirmation — plus an SMS the night before with driver name, vehicle registration and pickup point.
Your quote is the fare. No surge, no metered fare, no fuel levy — a higher rate applies on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday only.
How Much Is a Transfer from Brisbane Airport to Surfers Paradise?
The same fixed figure applies in both directions: $200 sedan or $260 Kia Carnival between Brisbane Airport and Meriton Suites Surfers Paradise — per vehicle, not per person, with the Gateway Motorway toll and GST included and the price locked at booking. The drive runs 65–85 minutes in normal traffic. Your driver tracks the flight, meets you on arrival, and the run ends at the Meriton’s driveway entry — one vehicle, one figure, no per-person maths for the apartment group.
How early should I leave Surfers Paradise for a 6am flight from Brisbane?
Earlier than feels natural, but not as early as you fear. Pre-dawn roads are clear, so the drive sits at the lower end of the 65–85 minutes range — the variable is your airline’s check-in and bag-drop cut-off, which the airport publishes. Most Surfers Paradise pickups for a 6am Brisbane departure land somewhere around 3am to 3:45am depending on terminal and luggage. The practical answer: give us the flight number instead of guessing a time — the pickup is calculated from your address and flight, the peak buffer is built in, and flight monitoring is on from the moment you book.
Meriton Suites Surfers Paradise Transfer FAQs
What does a transfer from Meriton Suites Surfers Paradise to Gold Coast Airport cost?
Around $90 in a sedan for 1–3 passengers, $120 in a Kia Carnival for up to 7. GST is inside the price and the figure is locked when you book.
What does a transfer to Brisbane Airport cost?
Around $200 in a sedan, $260 in a Kia Carnival. The Gateway Motorway toll and GST are both inside the quoted price.
Why does the Surfers street layout matter for a transfer?
The precinct is a dense grid of narrow one-way streets between the highway and the beach, with a tram line down the middle of the highway restricting turns. Getting from a driveway in the middle of that to a southbound lane is rarely a straight line and the right sequence changes with what’s closed that day. A driver who works the precinct knows it; a satnav routes into turns that no longer exist. It’s only a few minutes, but they’re the least predictable minutes of the trip.
Which airport should I use from Surfers Paradise?
Gold Coast Airport, clearly. It’s roughly half the drive time and $105 less in a sedan, widening to. Brisbane earns the extra only when your airline, a direct international route or a materially better connection makes the case.
How long are the drives to each airport?
Gold Coast Airport is typically 30–40 minutes across the 25 km, though weekday afternoons between about 3pm and 6pm can stretch it closer to 50. Brisbane Airport is typically 65–85 minutes across the 78 km via the M1, Logan and Gateway motorways. Your fixed price doesn’t change either way.
Do event road closures affect my transfer?
They affect the route, not the price. Motorsport, marathons, festivals and New Year all bring street closures around the precinct and our drivers work the diversions regularly. If you know something’s on that weekend, mention it at booking and the margin gets widened. Event dates and affected streets change year to year — check with the organiser or the City of Gold Coast for current detail.
What about schoolies in November and December?
Transfers run normally throughout. The precinct is considerably busier and the road environment changes for a couple of weeks, so departures from Surfers during that period carry a wider margin as standard. Nothing changes on the pricing.
Should I book further ahead over Christmas and New Year?
Yes. It’s the busiest stretch of the year for both the precinct and the airport and vehicles do book out — Carnivals and Transporters especially. There’s no surge on our pricing at any point, but availability is finite. A higher rate applies on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday only.
Where exactly does the driver collect me?
At the hotel driveway by the reception entrance, coordinated with the front desk. Include your suite number when booking and your SMS the night before confirms the driver’s name, vehicle registration and pickup point.
Why are airport pickups priced separately?
Collecting a passenger at an airport carries an airport access fee, which the outbound direction does not attract. Rather than average it across both legs, we quote each direction on its own so you see exactly what you are paying. Book both legs on one reservation and both figures are confirmed upfront.
What time will I be collected for my flight?
We aim to have you at the airport 2 hours before a domestic departure and 3 hours before an international one. The pickup time is that lead plus the drive, plus an allowance for the precinct. Give us the flight number at booking and we work the time back from it rather than from your check-out time.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing you need to manage. Flights are monitored on every airport pickup and the driver adjusts to your actual landing time. Waiting is not charged — the grace period runs around 30–45 minutes on domestic arrivals and 45 minutes to an hour on international.
Do you provide child seats?
Yes. Booked hire and taxi services are exempt from Queensland’s child restraint requirements, so a seat is not mandatory in our vehicles — but we provide and fit them anyway, at $35 per seat itemised in your locked quote. Rear-facing seats, forward-facing seats and boosters are all available, fitted and safety-checked before pickup, with up to 5 seats in the Kia Carnival.
Can you carry surfboards?
Yes and Surfers produces more of them than any other address we collect from. Boards travel in the Carnival or Transporter — up to three in one or two bags alongside passengers and luggage. They don’t fit in a sedan. Flag the board count at booking so the right vehicle is allocated.
How much luggage can each vehicle take?
Two large suitcases plus carry-on in the sedan, up to six in the Kia Carnival, up to ten in the 12-seater Transporter. Boards, prams, bike boxes and oversized items travel in the Carnival or Transporter.
Is rideshare reliable in Surfers?
Availability is the best on the coast, so a car will usually arrive quickly. Two other things go wrong instead. Surge is sharper here than anywhere in the region — event nights, New Year and the end of schoolies especially, which are exactly when people need airports. And the app’s pin drop frequently lands on the wrong side of a one-way block, where the driver can’t simply turn around. A pre-booked car comes to the reception driveway because that’s what’s on the booking.
Can I get to the airport on the tram?
Both stations are walkable and for Brisbane the tram to Helensvale connects directly to the Airtrain. Travelling light with time to spare, it’s reasonable. With a full apartment check-out and a flight to catch, getting the luggage out of the building and onto a platform is the part that makes it impractical.
Can I book a very early or late pickup?
Yes, by pre-booking. Pickups between 9pm and 6am carry an after-hours fee and the prices shown here assume standard hours of 6am to 9pm. Your total is confirmed upfront. Pre-dawn runs are the clearest of the day and the precinct is quiet — one of the smoothest transfers we do from this address.
Can you move a group leaving on different flights?
Yes and it’s common here given the three-bedroom layouts. Multi-vehicle bookings run on one reservation with each vehicle timed to its own flight, so nobody sits at the terminal for three hours and nobody misses a departure. Send the flight list and headcounts and we’ll build it out.
How is payment handled and can I book both legs together?
By card online when you book, which is the point the price is locked — nothing is paid in the vehicle and corporate accounts are available by prior approval. Booking both legs on one reservation is simpler: both prices are confirmed upfront, with the airport-to-property leg quoted separately because it carries the airport access fee. Your arrival flight is monitored and an SMS reaches you before landing with the meet point and arrival instructions.
What are the cancellation terms?
More than 24 hours before pickup, a full credit applies. Within 24 hours, no credit. If your airline cancels the flight: full credit with over 4 hours’ notice, 50% between 1.5 and 4 hours, none inside 1.5 hours. Credits are non-refundable. The complete terms are on our About Us page.
Do you cover other Surfers Paradise properties?
Yes — every hotel, resort and apartment tower in Surfers Paradise, Main Beach, Broadbeach and across the Gold Coast. Our hotel transfer guides index the properties with dedicated pages and the rest are bookable the same way.
