Coolangatta to BNE vs Coolangatta to OOL
| Factor | Coolangatta → BNE | Coolangatta → OOL |
|---|---|---|
| Distance | Approximately 110 km | Walking distance to a few kilometres |
| Drive time (off-peak) | 1h 30min–1h 40min | Minutes |
| Primary route | Stewart Road → M1 north → Logan → Gateway | Local roads — the OOL terminal adjoins Coolangatta at Bilinga |
| Best for | Major international connections and wider domestic capacity | Domestic east-coast, New Zealand and short-haul international |
OOL is the obvious choice for most Coolangatta travel — see our Gold Coast Airport (OOL) transfers. BNE is the right choice when the flight network demands it — the international long-haul widebody network out of Brisbane serving Europe, the Middle East, North America and Asia, routes OOL doesn’t operate. If you’re not sure which airport your itinerary points at, the airport transfer pricing guide walks through the decision.
Brisbane Airport Terminals From Coolangatta
Domestic Terminal — Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar and regional services, with the wider mainline capacity for interstate travel to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
International Terminal — major international carriers including Emirates, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Air New Zealand and Fiji Airways. Flight details are checked before travel so the correct terminal is used. For terminal layout and check-in planning, see our Brisbane Airport terminal guide.
NSW–QLD Cross-Border Operation
Two States, One Locked Quote
Coolangatta sits at the QLD–NSW border. Snapper Rocks and Point Danger mark the eastern beachfront border line; the OOL runway physically crosses the state line at Bilinga. CGC handles cross-border pickups from Twin Towns Services Club, Banora Point and Tweed Heads West routinely under Queensland Booked Hire licensing. The locked quote covers the entire NSW-and-QLD road distance, GST is included, the Gateway Motorway toll (QLD side, BNE arrival) is included and there are no border-crossing surcharges or app boundary issues at the state line.
Child restraints — which side of the border you start on decides the rule. Queensland exempts booked hire, taxi and ride-booking services from the mandatory child restraint requirements that apply to private cars, so a Coolangatta-side pickup carries no legal requirement. New South Wales doesn’t extend that exemption to hire vehicles — they follow the same rules as private cars, so a Tweed-side pickup (Twin Towns, Banora Point, Tweed Heads West) does require an approved, age-appropriate restraint for children under 7. CGC fits the correct rear-facing capsule, forward-facing seat or booster before pickup on either side of the border, so the distinction never becomes your problem. Provide each child’s age and approximate size when booking. An additional child seat cost applies and is added to your quote at booking.

Real Scenario: Marine Parade Coolangatta to BNE International
A solo business traveller staying in a Marine Parade Coolangatta beachfront apartment has an 8:00am Saturday international flight from BNE International. Luggage: two large suitcases and a carry-on garment bag.
Booking placed three weeks ahead with the Marine Parade apartment building name, unit number and the flight number on the record. The locked quote covers the sedan rate, GST and the Gateway Motorway toll, with the early-morning after-hours surcharge (3:20am pickup inside the 9pm–5am window) calculated and confirmed in the online quote. CGC allocates a sedan and the booking system applies the international timing rule (1h 40min drive plus 3h buffer), scheduling a 3:20am pickup at the Marine Parade apartment forecourt, confirmed in the night-before SMS with the after-hours lobby access code on file.
The vehicle arrives at the scheduled time at the Marine Parade forecourt and loading completes in around three minutes. Departure is via Marine Parade onto Griffith Street, then Stewart Road and onto the M1 northbound. The early-morning M1 corridor through Tugun, Burleigh, Robina, Nerang, Helensvale, Coomera, Ormeau and Yatala is clear, with no congestion at the Logan Motorway merge and the Gateway running cleanly into BNE. The sedan reaches BNE International at approximately 5:00am — around 1h 37min after Marine Parade — and with international check-in opening around 5:00am the traveller clears check-in, immigration and security with time for breakfast before boarding.
CGC Private Transfer vs Rideshare from Coolangatta
| Factor | CGC pre-booked | Rideshare |
|---|---|---|

| Gateway Motorway toll | ✓ Included in the locked quote | ✗ Added on top of the surge fare |
| Driver confirmed ahead | ✓ Driver allocated prior to pickup with SMS confirmation | ✗ Real-time match at pickup |

| Early-morning availability (3am–5am) | ✓ Pre-booked early morning transfers available, rostered for the shift | ✗ Driver availability can be limited early morning for 110km runs |
| Cross-border NSW Tweed pickup | ✓ Routine, child seats fitted on request as required under NSW rules | ✗ Variable depending on driver registration state |
| Surfboard accommodation | ✓ Up to 3 boards in 1–2 bags in the Carnival, configuration prepared at booking | ✗ App-dependent, vehicle frequently unsuitable |

Frequently Asked Questions on Coolangatta to Brisbane Airport
How much does Coolangatta to Brisbane Airport cost?
A fixed $230 Sedan or similar, $300 Kia Carnival for the 110km run — based on standard operating hours 5am–9pm, with the Gateway toll included and the final quote locked at booking. Per vehicle, not per passenger. All prices include GST. After-hours, Christmas Day, Easter Sunday and optional extras may incur additional charges.
Should I fly from OOL or BNE?
OOL for most travel — it’s walking distance from central Coolangatta and handles domestic east-coast, short-haul Asia-Pacific and NZ international. BNE is specifically for international long-haul routes OOL doesn’t operate. See our Gold Coast Airport (OOL) transfers.
How long does Coolangatta to Brisbane Airport take?
Around 1h 30min–1h 40min off-peak — approximately 110km via the Gold Coast Highway, Stewart Road, the M1, the Logan Motorway merge and the Gateway Motorway into BNE. Weekday morning peak adds 20–35 minutes through Yatala and the Logan Motorway merge. If you’re travelling in peak periods, allow up to 2 hours for the run.
How far is Coolangatta from Brisbane Airport?
Approximately 110km by road via the M1 Pacific Motorway, Logan Motorway and Gateway Motorway — one of the longest Brisbane Airport runs from the Gold Coast. Gold Coast Airport (OOL), by contrast, is walking distance from central Coolangatta.
Is the Gateway Motorway toll included?
Yes. Already inside the locked quote — no separate toll charge on arrival and no border-crossing surcharge on the cross-border run.
Are there after-hours charges?
Yes. Displayed pricing is based on standard operating hours from 5am to 9pm. After-hours transfers between 9pm and 5am may incur an additional surcharge, which is calculated and confirmed in your online quote before booking. Most international long-haul BNE departures from Coolangatta need an early-morning pickup, so this often applies.
What pickup time do I need for an 8am international flight?
Approximately 3:20am from Coolangatta. The 110km run takes around 1h 40min off-peak plus the 3-hour international buffer, landing you at BNE International around 5:00am for check-in. A pre-5am pickup falls outside standard hours and may attract an after-hours surcharge.
Can you pick up from Mantra Coolangatta Beach?
Yes. We regularly service Mantra Coolangatta Beach, Komune Coolangatta, Kirra Surf Apartments, Sage Hotel Coolangatta and the surrounding beachfront accommodation. Include the building name and unit number when booking.
Does CGC service Coolangatta hotels and resorts?
Yes. CGC regularly services Mantra Coolangatta Beach, Komune Coolangatta, Oaks Gold Coast Calypso Plaza, Sage Hotel Coolangatta, Kirra Surf Apartments, Kirra Beach Hotel accommodation and nearby holiday rentals. Include the property name and unit or room number when booking.
Does CGC pick up from Tweed Heads addresses?
Yes. Cross-border pickups from Twin Towns Services Club, Banora Point, Tweed Heads West and the broader Tweed border are routine, with no border-crossing surcharge. On the NSW Tweed-side, hire vehicles follow private-car rules, so children under 7 need an approved restraint — CGC fits the correct seat when arranged at booking.
Can CGC fit surfboards?
Yes. The Carnival fits up to 3 boards in 1–2 bags — boards up to around 7’2″ fit diagonally and longer boards need the Transporter, which also handles larger surf-trip manifests. International surf trips through BNE to Indonesia, Fiji, the Maldives and Central America are routine bookings from the Snapper Rocks and Superbank surf community.
Are child seats available and are they required?
Child seats are arranged at booking and CGC fits the correct seat before pickup on either side of the border. The legal position differs by state: Queensland exempts booked hire from the mandatory restraint requirement that applies to private cars, while NSW applies private-car rules to hire vehicles — so a Tweed-side pickup does require an approved restraint for children under 7. CGC fits the right seat regardless. Provide each child’s age and approximate size at booking. An additional child seat cost applies and is added to your quote at booking.
Does CGC surge for school holidays or Schoolies week?
No. The same locked rate applies. A higher rate applies only on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday.
Are early-morning pickups available from Coolangatta?
Yes. Pre-booked early morning and after-hours transfers are available and early-morning 2am–5am pickups are routine for international long-haul BNE departures. Pickups before 5am fall outside standard operating hours and may attract an after-hours surcharge, confirmed in your online quote.
Do you charge for waiting time at Brisbane Airport?
No. There is no extra charge for airport waiting time. On arrivals we monitor your flight and generally allow 30 to 45 minutes after a domestic landing and 45 minutes to 1 hour after an international landing, for you to clear the terminal and collect your bags. You will receive a text confirming your transfer and where to meet the driver.
Is the return trip from Brisbane Airport the same price?
Not quite — the inbound leg is quoted separately and generally sits a little above the outbound, because runs starting at Brisbane Airport carry the airport access fee that outbound trips don’t. Both legs go on one reservation and both figures are shown before you confirm, so there’s no guesswork. We monitor your inbound flight and because where you’re met depends on which arrivals area your flight comes into, you’ll receive a text confirming your transfer with the exact meet point and arrival instructions — then we drop you at your apartment, hotel or Tweed-side address.
How much luggage can each vehicle take?
The Sedan or similar handles up to 2 large suitcases plus carry-on, the Kia Carnival up to 6 — plus up to 3 surfboards in 1–2 bags — while the 12-seater Transporter holds up to 10. Flag your bags and any boards at booking so the right vehicle is sent.
How do I pay?
You pay online by card when the booking is made, so nothing is handled in the car. Corporate accounts are available by prior approval.
What is the cancellation and flight-change policy?
Cancel more than 24 hours before pickup for a full credit toward a future booking; within 24 hours, no credit applies. If a flight is cancelled, you get a full credit beyond 4 hours, a 50% credit from 1.5 to 4 hours and none inside 1.5 hours. Credits are non-refundable and carry to your next trip. The full terms are on our About Us page.
Can you take a group of more than 11?
Yes. For parties above 11 — wedding groups departing through BNE after a Coolangatta, Rainbow Bay or Tweed wedding, group surf trips or multi-family movements — we run a multi-vehicle booking with several vehicles allocated together under one reservation. Send the total passenger and luggage numbers and we organise the fleet.
