Which Child Seat Does My Child Need?
CGC provides a range of Australian-Standards child safety seats for every stage, and fits the correct one for your child’s age and size:
- Rear-facing seat — 0 to 6 months. An approved rear-facing child seat for newborns (not a capsule).
- Rear- or forward-facing seat — 6 months to 2 years, depending on your child’s size.
- Forward-facing seat with 6-point harness — 2 to 6 years.
- Transitional booster — 6 to 8 years, until the adult seatbelt fits correctly across the shoulder and lap.
These are age guides — the right restraint depends on your child’s actual height and weight. Tell us each child’s age and approximate size at booking and we prepare the right seat. If you’re unsure which your child needs, flag it and we’ll help you work it out.
How Much Do Child Seats Cost?
Child seats are an optional extra at $35 per seat, added to your quote at booking. The charge is per seat, so two children needing restraints is $70, added to the vehicle price. There’s no in-car payment — the seat cost sits inside the locked quote you pay online, and nothing is handled on the day.

How Many Child Seats Fit in Each Vehicle?
Vehicle choice depends on how many seats you need alongside passengers and luggage. The 7-seat Kia Carnival is the workhorse for families — it takes up to 5 child seats and still has room for luggage.
For larger family groups or multiple young children, tell us the full manifest — passenger count, ages, and how many of each seat type — and we match the vehicle to it. Groups over 11 run as multiple vehicles on one reservation.

Child Restraint Law: Queensland vs New South Wales
CGC operates across South East Queensland and Northern NSW, and the two states treat booked-hire vehicles differently. We fit the correct seat regardless of which side of the border you’re travelling from — but it’s worth understanding the rule.
Queensland
Queensland law requires children under 7 to travel in an approved child restraint suited to their age and size in a private vehicle. Booked-hire vehicles (taxis and services like CGC) have a specific exemption from the mandatory-restraint requirement — but an exemption is not a recommendation. CGC fits the correct Australian-Standards seat on every Queensland transfer where a child needs one, because it’s the safe thing to do, exemption or not.

New South Wales
New South Wales applies the private-car rules to hire vehicles — there’s no booked-hire exemption. On any NSW pickup (Tweed Heads, Kingscliff, Byron Bay, Ballina and the Northern Rivers), children under 7 must be in an approved child restraint suited to their age. So for a NSW cross-border transfer, the correct seat isn’t just recommended — it’s required, and we fit it as standard.

Transport for NSW reports that around half of all child restraints aren’t fitted or used correctly — which is the whole argument for seats that arrive already installed and checked by the driver, rather than wrestled in at the kerb.
How to Arrange Child Seats at Booking
Add child seats when you book online, or mention them when you call. To prepare the right restraint we need:
- Each child’s age — so we bring the correct seat type
- Approximate height and weight — for children near a size transition (rear-facing to forward-facing, or forward-facing to booster)
- How many of each — if you have more than one child needing a restraint
- Any preference — if you’d like a specific configuration, tell us and we’ll set it up

Gold Coast Airport Transfer with Child Seats for a Family
For a family landing at Gold Coast Airport, it works like this: book the transfer, tell us the children’s ages, and the right restraints are installed before the car reaches the terminal — $35 per seat on top of your route’s fixed per-vehicle fare. A pickup from OOL to Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach, for example, is $105 sedan or $135 Kia Carnival, so two adults, a toddler in a forward-facing seat and a baby in a capsule ride door-to-door for $205 in the Carnival — seats fitted, driver waiting inside the terminal with a name sign, pram and luggage in the boot. You never need to bring your own seats or carry them through the airport, and the Carnival takes up to five restraints for bigger crews.

Are the seats already fitted when the driver arrives?
Yes. The seat is installed and safety-checked before the driver leaves for your pickup, so it’s secure and ready when the car arrives — no fitting delay at the kerb, and no need for you to install anything.
Do you fit child seats for the return trip too?
Yes. Book both legs on one reservation and the seats are fitted for the return transfer as well — we monitor the incoming flight and meet you on arrival with the correct restraints ready.
Do Gold Coast airport transfers include child seats?
With CGC, yes — on request at booking. Australian-Standards capsules, forward-facing seats and boosters are supplied and fitted before pickup for $35 per seat on any transfer, to or from either airport. Tell us ages when you book and the car arrives ready.
Can you do a Gold Coast Airport transfer with child seats for a family of five?
Easily — the 7-seat Kia Carnival takes the whole family plus luggage, with up to five child restraints fitted. Give us the ages at booking and every child is in the correct seat before the car reaches you.
Do you have capsules for newborns?
Yes — rear-facing capsules suitable from birth, fitted and checked by the driver before pickup, $35 like every other restraint. Just tell us the baby’s age at booking.
At what age can my child use a booster instead of a full seat?
As a rule of thumb: capsules to around 6–12 months, forward-facing seats to about 4 years, boosters from roughly 4 to 7. We fit to your child’s age and size — tell us both and we’ll bring the right one.
Does a baby count as a passenger?
Yes — every child, including a baby in a capsule, occupies a seat and counts toward the vehicle’s capacity. The sedan suits up to 3 passengers total; the Carnival up to 7.
Can you fit a pram, luggage and the child seats all at once?
Yes. Seats are installed before pickup, so the boot stays free for the pram and cases — the Carnival takes a full family’s luggage alongside up to five fitted restraints.
Do taxis and rideshare at Gold Coast Airport provide child seats?
Generally no — rank taxis and rideshare rarely guarantee a restraint, and QLD’s exemption for taxis doesn’t make an unrestrained trip a good idea. A pre-booked CGC car arrives with the correct seats already fitted.
Do I pay for the child seats separately?
No — they’re added to your booking at $35 per seat and included in the one locked quote. Nothing to pay in the car, GST included.
How far ahead should I book if I need child seats?
As soon as you have flights. Seats are allocated per booking, and booking ahead guarantees the exact capsule or booster your children need is reserved and fitted for your pickup.
Do you provide child seats for pickups from Byron Bay and Northern NSW?
Yes — and in NSW they’re legally required for every child under 7 in a booked-hire vehicle, with no taxi-style exemption. Tell us ages at booking; the restraints are fitted before we cross the border to collect you.
Are the child seats cleaned and safety-checked?
Yes — every seat is an Australian-Standards restraint, cleaned between uses and installed by the driver, who checks the fit before the trip starts.
Can we keep the same seats for the return transfer to the airport?
Yes — book both legs on one reservation and the same restraint setup is fitted for the trip home, with 5% off the return leg.

CGC Airport Transfers — child seats provided and fitted on Gold Coast and Northern NSW airport transfers to Gold Coast Airport (OOL) and Brisbane Airport (BNE). Rear-facing seat, forward-facing seat or transitional booster, all Australian-Standards approved, $35 per seat, arranged at booking and fitted before pickup. Up to 1 seat in a sedan, up to 5 in the 7-seat Kia Carnival, more in the 12-seater Transporter. Queensland booked-hire vehicles carry a child-restraint exemption but CGC fits the correct seat regardless; New South Wales applies private-car rules to hire vehicles, so children under 7 require an approved restraint on NSW pickups.
Service: driver allocated prior to pickup with night-before SMS confirmation, flight details monitored on every booking, child seats fitted and safety-checked before pickup, GST included, price locked at booking, no in-car payment. Hours 6am–9pm standard, after-hours pickups (9pm–6am) by arrangement. Licensed and insured under Queensland Booked Hire arrangements administered by Queensland Transport and Main Roads. Operating since 2020.
