Public Holiday Airport Transfers Gold Coast: Standard Rates on Every Holiday but Two
The two exceptions: Christmas Day and Easter Sunday carry a higher rate, confirmed inside the quote — every other public holiday runs at standard fixed prices
Fixed prices: from $55 / $85 to OOL; central Gold Coast to BNE $200 / $260 — GST included, locked at booking
The real constraint: holiday-week availability — Christmas and New Year departures want 6–8 weeks’ notice; the calendar fills before the prices ever move
Why the rate holds: pre-booked fixed pricing has no surge mechanism — the figure locked in November is the figure on Boxing Day
After-hours still applies: holiday or not, pickups between 9pm and 5am carry the after-hours fee, visible in the quote
Schoolies: its own operational world — covered on the dedicated Schoolies pages linked below
- ✔ Boxing Day sales traffic slows the drive, never the bill
- ✔ Australia Day, Labour Day, King’s Birthday: standard prices, book normally
- ✔ Christmas Day itself: the higher rate is stated upfront in the quote, not discovered
- ✔ The Christmas Eve real scenario below shows the week in practice
- ✔ New Year’s Eve pickups after 9pm: after-hours fee applies as always
- ✔ Holiday-week Transporters book out first — groups should move earliest
On public holidays the CGC price holds while everything around it moves: standard fixed figures — from $55 sedan to Gold Coast Airport (OOL), from $200 sedan to Brisbane Airport (BNE) for central Gold Coast addresses — apply on every Queensland and NSW public holiday except two, with a higher rate only on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday and availability, not price, is what runs out around the holiday calendar.
From $55 to Gold Coast Airport (OOL) or $200 to Brisbane Airport (BNE) — the same rate on Australia Day, ANZAC Day, New Year’s Eve and Boxing Day as on any Tuesday. Only Christmas Day and Easter Sunday cost more.

Public holidays are when ground transport pricing gets interesting — for everyone else. At CGC there are exactly two days in the year that cost more than a normal Tuesday: Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. Every other public holiday on the calendar — Australia Day, ANZAC Day, Labour Day, the King’s Birthday, Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday — runs at the standard fixed rate, from $55 sedan to OOL and $200 sedan to BNE for central Gold Coast addresses, GST and Gateway toll included. What does change on a public holiday is availability, which is the whole reason this page exists. 5.0 stars from 65 Google reviews.
The Direct Answer
Pricing doesn’t move for public holidays. The fixed price locks at booking — from $55 sedan / $85 Kia Carnival / to OOL and from $200 / $260 to BNE for central Gold Coast addresses, GST included, Gateway toll inside every BNE quote — and it’s the same figure on New Year’s Eve as on a wet Wednesday in March. There’s no surge, no demand multiplier and no metered fare, ever. Two days are the exception: Christmas Day (25 December) and Easter Sunday carry a higher rate, confirmed and locked in the quote at booking rather than sprung on you on the day. The genuine constraint is availability, not price: driver capacity tightens hard across Christmas–New Year, January, Schoolies week and the Easter long weekend, so the booking window matters more than usual. Book 6–8 weeks ahead for Christmas and New Year, 4–6 for January and Schoolies, 3–4 for Easter and school holidays and 2–3 for the standalone public holidays.

Per vehicle for central Gold Coast addresses, GST included, locked at booking. Outer suburbs and Northern NSW covered by their own published fixed zones. An after-hours fee applies to pickups between 9pm and 5am and sits inside the locked quote — relevant on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, where the early departures are common. Availability Is the Real Constraint
Since the price doesn’t move, the only thing worth planning around is whether a vehicle is free. Holiday periods compress a lot of travel into a few days and capacity gets committed early — a Christmas Day booking made in mid-December is competing with bookings made in October.
| Period | When | Book by | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Christmas & New Year | 20 Dec – 5 Jan | 6–8 weeks ahead | Very limited |
| January summer holidays | All month | 4–6 weeks ahead | Very limited |
| Schoolies week | Mid-Nov – early Dec | 4–6 weeks ahead | Severely limited |
| Easter long weekend | Varies yearly | 3–4 weeks ahead | Limited |
| April and July school holidays | April / July | 3–4 weeks ahead | Tightening |
| Australia Day, ANZAC Day, Labour Day, King’s Birthday | Various | 2–3 weeks ahead | Good |
There’s no cost to booking early — the rate is identical whenever you book, so waiting buys nothing and risks the vehicle. See how far in advance to book for the full timeline.
Why the Rate Holds When Everything Else Moves
Most holiday ground transport prices on demand: more people wanting cars than there are cars, so the number goes up. It’s a rational model and a miserable experience — you find out what Christmas morning costs on Christmas morning.
A fixed price locked at booking is a different proposition. The distance from your address to the terminal doesn’t change because it’s a holiday, so neither does the fare. You know the figure in October, you pay the figure in December and the only two days that carry a premium are named up front rather than discovered at the kerb.
| Situation | CGC | On-demand |
|---|---|---|
| Christmas Eve pre-dawn departure | Standard rate, after-hours fee inside the quote | Peak demand pricing |
| Christmas Day | Higher rate — locked at booking, known in advance | Peak demand pricing, discovered on the day |
| New Year’s Eve | Standard rate | One of the worst nights of the year for pricing |
| New Year’s Day | Standard rate | Demand pricing common |
| Schoolies week | Standard rate | Sustained demand pricing across the window |
| Easter Sunday | Higher rate — locked at booking | Demand pricing |
| School holidays | Standard rate | Elevated across the period |

What’s Included on a Public Holiday Booking
- A driver assigned to your booking ahead of the day and confirmed by SMS with their name, contact number, pickup time and meet point.
- Price locked at booking with GST, the Gateway toll on BNE runs and any after-hours fee inside it — no surge on any holiday.
- Standard rate on every public holiday except Christmas Day and Easter Sunday, both confirmed in the quote at booking.
- Door-to-door from any Gold Coast or Northern NSW address, direct to your terminal with no shared stops.
- Driver-handled luggage at both ends.
- Flight monitoring on every booking — a delayed arrival moves the pickup automatically, with 45 minutes’ waiting included from wheels down on domestic arrivals and 90 minutes on international.
- Meet and greet included on Gold Coast Airport (OOL) pickups.
- Australian-Standards child restraints as an optional extra, itemised at booking and fitted before pickup — up to 5 in the Carnival, your own seats fitted at no charge.
- Licensed and insured under Queensland Booked Hire arrangements administered by Queensland Transport and Main Roads.
Schoolies Week
Schoolies is the single tightest window on the Gold Coast calendar — mid-November into early December, Surfers Paradise at capacity and both airports moving a lot of people in a short span. It’s also a standard-rate period at CGC: no premium, no multiplier, just a booking made early enough to exist.
Four to six weeks ahead is the honest recommendation, which means booking in October for a November departure. Later than that and the answer is often no. The Schoolies transfers page covers the full framework, including parent-booked arrangements and vehicle sizing for groups.
A Real Christmas Eve Departure
A Surfers Paradise family of four books in late October for a mid-afternoon Christmas Eve flight to Sydney — two adults, a four-year-old and a seven-year-old, three suitcases, two carry-ons, a forward-facing seat and a booster. Eight weeks out, the Carnival is reserved with both restraints itemised in the quote and the Gateway toll inside the locked figure.
Christmas Eve isn’t one of the two higher-rate days — only Christmas Day itself is — so the standard rate applies, on one of the most demand-heavy afternoons of the year for everyone else’s pricing.
The timing accounts for the Christmas exodus: the M1 northbound on 24 December runs heavier than a normal weekday, so the pickup is set earlier than the same flight would need in March. The confirmation SMS the night before carries the driver’s name, number and the lobby. The family leaves at 11:48am, hits a slow but moving M1 and reaches BNE Domestic with the full 1.5-hour domestic buffer intact.
The fare is the figure quoted eight weeks earlier. The traffic was the airline’s problem and ours, not theirs.
The Fleet
Groups of 8–11 take the 12-seat Transporter — useful over the holidays, when extended families move together. Anything larger runs as multiple vehicles.
What to Give Us at Booking
- Exact pickup address — hotel, building and unit, rental or residence, with the entrance if there’s more than one.
- Terminal — BNE Domestic, BNE International, OOL Domestic or OOL International.
- Flight number and time — departure for outbound, arrival for airport pickups.
- Passengers and luggage, including surfboards or oversized gear.
- Child restraint needs — ages, so the right Australian-Standards seat is fitted before pickup.
- Access notes — gate codes, after-hours entry, landmark descriptions.
- Your mobile number for the confirmation SMS.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do airport transfers cost more on public holidays?
Only on two days: Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. Every other public holiday — Australia Day, ANZAC Day, Labour Day, the King’s Birthday, Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday — runs at the standard fixed rate, locked at booking with no surge.
What about Christmas Day?
Christmas Day carries a higher rate and it’s confirmed and locked in your quote at booking rather than applied on the day. Transfers run on Christmas Day as normal — it’s one of the busiest mornings of the year.
Is New Year’s Eve more expensive?
No — standard rate, which is worth knowing given what New Year’s Eve does to on-demand pricing. If your pickup falls between 9pm and 5am, the usual after-hours fee applies and sits inside the locked quote.
How far ahead should I book for Christmas and New Year?
Six to eight weeks — late October or early November for a December trip. Capacity across 20 December to 5 January is committed early and mid-December enquiries frequently miss out. The rate is the same whenever you book, so there’s nothing to gain by waiting.
Can I book late for Schoolies week?
Honestly, no. Schoolies needs 4–6 weeks — book in October for November. It’s a standard-rate period, but capacity disappears and late enquiries in that window usually get a straight no.
Are Easter transfers available?
Yes, across the whole long weekend. Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday are standard rate; Easter Sunday is one of the two higher-rate days, locked at booking. Three to four weeks ahead is the sensible window.
Does a weekend or peak season change the price?
No. The quote is calculated on the distance from your address to your terminal and the time of day — an after-hours fee applies between 9pm and 5am. Weekends, school holidays, event weekends and peak seasons all run at the standard rate.
Is the Gateway toll included on a holiday BNE run?
Yes — the Gateway toll sits inside every BNE quote, holiday or not, along with GST and any after-hours fee. There’s nothing to settle at a toll booth and nothing billed afterwards.
Can I book the outbound and return together over a holiday?
Yes and over a holiday period it’s the sensible move — one booking locks pricing on both legs and secures both vehicles while there are still vehicles to secure. Flight monitoring covers the return once its flight number is on the booking.
What if my flight is delayed on a holiday?
Flight monitoring runs on every booking regardless of the date — the pickup follows your actual landing, waiting isn’t charged and 45 minutes are included from wheels down on domestic arrivals and 90 minutes on international. See how flight delays are handled.
What if my flight is cancelled?
Message 0416 131 285 as soon as you know — credit is measured against your original scheduled pickup: full credit more than 4 hours out, 50% between 1.5 and 4 hours, none within 1.5 hours. Full detail on the flight cancellation page.
Where can I find more guides on Gold Coast airport transfers?
Every guide and route page sits on our resources hub — timing, pricing, early-morning pickups, delays and cancellations, family travel and the comparison guides.
