Schoolies Airport Transfers on the Gold Coast
Schoolies groups move best pre-booked: the 12-seater Transporter takes 8–11 school-leavers quoted on request to Gold Coast Airport (OOL), parents can book and pay remotely with full visibility of the driver and pickup and the price is locked at booking — no surge across Schoolies week, ever.
From schoolies, Gold Coast Airport (OOL) to your Surfers Paradise apartment — locked at booking, no surge across the entire Schoolies week.

The Direct Answer on Schoolies Airport Transfer Gold Coast
A schoolies group transfer from Gold Coast Airport (OOL) starts from — one vehicle, 8–11 schoolies, luggage for the full week, locked at booking. Book both legs on one reservation and a 5% discount applies to the return leg. Nearly every Schoolies group flies into Coolangatta rather than Brisbane, which is the right call: OOL is 30–45 minutes from Surfers Paradise on the toll-free Gold Coast Highway, against roughly two hours from Brisbane. Schoolies week is the highest-demand week of the Gold Coast transport calendar from the third weekend of November and Surfers Paradise is the epicentre — high-rise apartments across Cavill Avenue, Orchid Avenue, Garfield Terrace and Old Burleigh Road absorb tens of thousands of Year 12 school leavers in a one-week window. On-demand transport struggles under that load: a group of 6–12 doesn’t fit one sedan and driver pools tighten exactly when the arrivals concourse is fullest. CGC consolidates the group under a single booking placed weeks ahead, with larger cohorts running as coordinated multi-vehicle manifests. The booking is normally placed by a parent, a parent group or a school cohort coordinator and the locked quote covers the inbound leg, the optional return and any after-hours fee on a pre-dawn return pickup — all inside the one figure. No surge across the entire Schoolies week. No last-minute booking surcharge. Named drivers allocated weeks ahead with a night-before SMS to the booking parent’s mobile. 5.0 stars from 65 Google reviews.
Schoolies Group Pricing at a Glance
| Vehicle | Schoolies | Gold Coast Airport (OOL) to Surfers Paradise |
|---|---|---|
| 7-seat Kia Carnival | 4–7 | a fixed $135 |
| Sedan or similar | 1–3 | a fixed $105 |
Indicative “from” pricing, per vehicle — not per schoolie. Cohorts of 12+ are quoted per vehicle across a coordinated multi-vehicle manifest with a single combined invoice. No toll on the OOL run — the Gold Coast Highway is toll-free. Any after-hours fee on a pre-dawn return pickup (9pm–5am) is inside the locked quote. .
CGC handles Year 12 group transport from Gold Coast Airport (OOL) into Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Main Beach, Burleigh Heads, Coolangatta and the wider Gold Coast schoolies accommodation precinct. We run Schoolies every year — it’s the busiest week on the calendar and the operation is built for it.
Groups of 8–11 get the 12-seater Transporter as the default vehicle. Friendship groups of 4–7 get the 7-seat Kia Carnival. Smaller pickups of 1–3 use a sedan. Cohorts of 12+ run as coordinated multi-vehicle manifests with a lead-coordinator driver. Named drivers are allocated weeks ahead.
The fixed quote locks at booking, per vehicle. There’s no toll on the OOL run — the Gold Coast Highway is toll-free — and any after-hours fee on a pre-dawn return pickup sits inside the locked quote. Automatic flight monitoring runs on every inbound transfer. No surge across Schoolies week, no metered fare, no fuel levy, no last-minute booking surcharge.
The booking is parent-bookable. Schoolies don’t need an Australian payment method, a rideshare account or a SIM card on arrival. Single combined invoice available for parent-group and school-cohort bookings.
Why Schoolies Groups Fly Into OOL
Gold Coast Airport sits at Bilinga, at the southern end of the Coast and it’s the natural arrival point for a Schoolies group. The drive to Surfers Paradise runs 30–45 minutes up the toll-free Gold Coast Highway through Palm Beach, Burleigh and Broadbeach. Brisbane Airport, by contrast, is roughly two hours away up the M1 with a toll — an extra ninety minutes on the front of a trip that a group of eleven has been looking forward to all year.
OOL runs direct services from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth, which covers where most Schoolies cohorts come from. The terminal is single-level and the arrivals concourse is compact, which makes meeting a group of eleven straightforward in a way that BNE’s larger footprint isn’t.
The CGC Fleet for Schoolies Groups
OOL Congestion on Schoolies Saturdays
The late-November Schoolies window is structurally hard for on-demand transport. School cohorts from across Australia land in a tight Saturday-to-Saturday window — Queensland and NSW first, then Victorian, Western Australian and ACT cohorts the following week. The arrival pattern at OOL on those Saturdays is predictable and intense.
| Saturday hour | OOL Domestic arrival pattern |
|---|---|
| 11am–1pm | First Sydney and Melbourne arrivals build |
| 1pm–3pm | Heavy NSW and Victoria arrivals |
| 3pm–5pm | Peak arrival window — Sydney and Melbourne dominant |
| 5pm–7pm | Continuing arrivals, Adelaide and Canberra cohorts |
| 7pm onwards | Final Saturday arrivals taper off |
The compact OOL terminal is an advantage here, but the kerbside gets busy and the Gold Coast Highway northbound carries heavy Schoolies-week traffic through Palm Beach and Burleigh. CGC named drivers are positioned at arrivals ahead of the inbound flight landing — meet-and-greet at the arrivals concourse with the lead schoolie’s surname on the CGC sign.
Surfers Paradise Apartment Tower Coordination
Schoolies accommodation in Surfers Paradise centres on high-rise apartment towers along Cavill Avenue, Orchid Avenue, The Esplanade, Garfield Terrace and Old Burleigh Road. Each tower has its own pickup and drop-off logistics and the named driver knows the specific building entry point before the day. The night-before SMS confirms it.
| Apartment tower | CGC pickup and drop-off point | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 Resort and Spa | Hamilton Avenue porte cochère | Concierge presence at lobby for luggage assistance |
| Soul Surfers Paradise | Esplanade kerbside lobby | Beachfront tower — luggage staging in lobby |
| Hilton Surfers Paradise | Surfers Paradise Boulevard kerbside | Hotel concierge presence, standard arrival protocol |
| Mantra Legends | Surfers Paradise Boulevard porte cochère | Tower complex pickup at main entrance |
| Mantra Sun City | Cavill Avenue kerbside | Heart of Surfers Paradise, close to Cavill mall |
| Crowne Plaza Surfers Paradise | Old Burleigh Road porte cochère | Beachfront, south end of Surfers |
| Paradise Resort Gold Coast | Boundary Street main forecourt | Large drop-off zone |
| JW Marriott Surfers Paradise | Ferny Avenue porte cochère | Premium accommodation option |
| Holiday apartments off the main strip | Specific street address with lobby reference | Confirmed on the booking |
| Garfield Terrace and Northcliffe apartments | Specific apartment building entry | Southern Surfers apartment-rental buildings |
Apartment tower pickup confusion is amplified during Schoolies week. Pre-allocating the named driver removes the moment where 8–11 schoolies stand on Hamilton Avenue with their luggage waiting for an uncertain pickup point.
12-seater Transporter reserved. Locked per vehicle. Parent-bookable.

Pre-Dawn Return Departures
Return departures cluster on the following Friday, Saturday and Sunday, frequently on early-morning flights. Pickups from Surfers Paradise apartments at 4am–6am are common on the return leg and any after-hours fee (for pickups between 9pm and 5am) sits inside the locked quote — confirmed at booking, not sprung on a tired group at 4am.
| Return flight from OOL | Pickup time from Surfers Paradise | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 6:25am | 4:25am pickup (drive + 1.5h domestic buffer) | Pre-dawn pickup; after-hours fee inside the locked figure |
| 7am | 5am pickup | Right on the edge of the standard 5am–9pm window |
| 8:30am | 6:30am pickup | Standard hours — no after-hours fee |
| 10am | 8am pickup | Standard hours |
Schoolies Luggage — What to Expect
A schoolies week luggage manifest is heavier than a typical seven-day holiday: week-long clothing, swimwear, multiple outfit changes a day, accommodation supplies, beach gear and electronics. Each schoolie typically brings one to two large suitcases plus carry-on and a daypack — so a group of nine is 9–18 large suitcases plus nine carry-on and nine daypacks.
| Group and luggage | Vehicle |
|---|---|
| 9 schoolies, 9 large suitcases + 9 carry-on + 9 daypacks | 12-seater Transporter handles it in one trip |
| 9 schoolies, 14 large suitcases (some bringing two bags) + carry-on | Transporter cargo handles it with strategic loading |
| 11 schoolies, 11 large + 11 carry-on + accommodation supplies | Transporter at capacity — supplies bags acceptable |
| Mixed group across 3 apartments, luggage at each | Transporter with sequential drop-off per apartment |
Parent Booking Workflow
Most schoolies bookings are placed by a parent of one of the group, a parent group across several families and a school cohort coordinator. The workflow is built for that.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Initial enquiry | Parent contacts CGC 4–12 weeks ahead with the Schoolies week dates, accommodation address and approximate group size |
| 2. Group manifest | Group list with each schoolie’s first name and surname (for the meet-and-greet sign), the inbound OOL flight number, the Gold Coast accommodation address and apartment number and a parent contact mobile |
| 3. Vehicle allocation and locked quote | CGC allocates the Transporter (8–11) or a coordinated multi-vehicle manifest (12+). Written quote with per-vehicle line items and a group total, with any after-hours fee inside |
| 4. Confirmation and payment | Parent settles by card and the cost is split across the parent group. Single combined invoice available. No last-minute surcharge |
| 5. Named driver and night-before SMS | Drivers allocated weeks ahead. Night-before SMS to the parent’s mobile (and the lead schoolie’s mobile where flagged) confirming the driver’s name, vehicle registration and meet-and-greet point |
No Surge Across Schoolies Week
Schoolies week is the single highest-demand week on the Gold Coast transport calendar and it’s exactly when on-demand pricing moves most. CGC doesn’t run surge pricing at any time of year and that includes the entire Schoolies week.
What that means in practice
- The Transporter quoted on request from-price, per vehicle, whether you book it in September or the week before.
- The quote you accept at booking is the figure you pay after the transfer — no day-of variation.
- No toll on the OOL run — the Gold Coast Highway is toll-free.
- Any after-hours fee on a 4am return pickup is confirmed in the quote at booking, not added on the day.
- No last-minute booking surcharge — the same rate today as four weeks ahead.
- Christmas Day and Easter Sunday are the only days of the year carrying a higher rate and Schoolies week falls on neither.
Parent Visibility on the Group
Parents booking schoolies transport generally want to know the group arrived and left, safely. The operating model is structured to give that visibility without anyone chasing it.
| Feature | How it works |
|---|---|
| Booking confirmation to the parent mobile | Driver name, vehicle registration, pickup time, drop-off address — forwardable to a school cohort coordinator or other parents |
| Night-before SMS | Driver name, vehicle registration, pickup time and meet-and-greet point |
| One named driver per vehicle | A specific named driver, not an algorithmic match on the day |
| Lead-coordinator driver on multi-vehicle convoys | For cohorts of 12+, one named driver coordinates the convoy so all vehicles reach Surfers in the same window |
| Arrival confirmation | The driver confirms safe arrival at the accommodation; the parent receives an SMS |
| Return confirmation | The driver confirms safe drop-off at OOL |
| One point of contact | 0416 131 285 — a single number for parents across Schoolies week |
Group Sizing
| Group size | Fleet | From (OOL) |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 schoolies | 1 × sedan | $90 |
| 4–7 schoolies | 1 × 7-seat Kia Carnival | $120 |
| 12–14 schoolies | 1 Transporter + 1 Carnival | Quoted per vehicle |
| 15–18 schoolies | 2 Transporters and Transporter + 2 Carnivals | Quoted per vehicle |
| 19–25 schoolies | 2–3 Transporters plus support vehicles | Quoted per vehicle |
| 26+ schoolies | Custom multi-vehicle manifest | Quoted per vehicle |

Schoolies-week Saturday traffic on the Gold Coast Highway northbound runs heavier than usual, so pickup buffers are extended where peak conditions warrant.
Real Scenario: Melbourne Cohort of 11, OOL → Cavill Avenue
The setup
Eleven Year 12 schoolies from a Melbourne school book a Cavill Avenue apartment tower for the second Schoolies week. They land at OOL at 4:50pm on the Saturday and fly home the following Saturday at 6:25am. A parent group of three places the CGC booking six weeks ahead.
The vehicle and locked quote
CGC allocates a Transporter quoted on request with driver Wayne assigned, for a 5:15pm pickup at OOL arrivals. The return leg books at the same time — a 4:25am pickup from Cavill Avenue, back-calculated from the 6:25am departure using the drive time plus the 1.5-hour domestic buffer. The after-hours fee on the pre-dawn return pickup sits inside the locked quote.
Night-before SMS
Wayne sends an SMS to the parent group’s primary contact and the lead schoolie’s mobile, confirming the 5:15pm pickup at OOL arrivals, the Transporter registration and that the group of 11 plus luggage is noted on the manifest.
Saturday afternoon arrival
4:54pm: the flight lands and flight monitoring confirms the actual landing time. Wayne is in the arrivals hall by 5pm with the CGC sign showing the lead schoolie’s surname. The group clears baggage by 5:18pm, Wayne assists with loading and the Transporter departs at 5:30pm. The Gold Coast Highway northbound through Bilinga, Tugun and Palm Beach carries heavy Schoolies-week traffic and the Transporter reaches the Cavill Avenue tower at around 6:15pm — a 45-minute run given peak conditions. Wayne assists with luggage at the lobby and confirms the booking reference with the parent group by SMS.
The return leg
Following Saturday, 4:23am: the Transporter arrives at the Cavill Avenue lobby kerb on the same locked quote. Loading, then departure at 4:32am. The Gold Coast Highway southbound is light pre-dawn and the Transporter reaches OOL Domestic at around 5:05am, comfortably inside the 1.5-hour window for the 6:25am departure.
Outcome
An 11-person cohort handled end-to-end on a single Transporter booking, both legs pre-paid on the parent group’s card, with Wayne confirmed six weeks ahead. The after-hours fee sat inside the locked quote. The schoolies started and ended the week without transport stress and the parents in Melbourne received arrival and return confirmation messages.
Real Scenario: Sydney Cohort of 16, OOL → Two Apartments
The setup
Sixteen Year 12 schoolies from a Sydney school, split across two apartments — nine at Q1 Resort and seven at Soul Surfers Paradise. They land at OOL at 3pm on the Saturday. A parent group of four books eight weeks ahead.
The vehicle plan and locked quote
CGC allocates a multi-vehicle manifest: one Transporter and one Kia Carnival, with Sophie as lead-coordinator driver in the Transporter and Michael in the Carnival. A single combined locked quote covers both vehicles, with a sequential drop-off — Q1 first, then Soul Surfers Paradise.
Saturday arrival
The flight lands at 3pm and flight monitoring confirms. Both drivers are positioned at OOL arrivals from 2:45pm — Sophie holding the CGC sign with the lead schoolie’s surname, Michael with the sign for the second apartment’s lead. The group clears baggage by 3:20pm and both vehicles are loaded by 3:35pm. The Gold Coast Highway northbound is at Saturday afternoon Schoolies peak and the convoy reaches Q1 Resort’s Hamilton Avenue porte cochère at around 4:20pm. Nine schoolies and their luggage are dropped, then both vehicles continue to Soul Surfers on the Esplanade, where the remaining seven are dropped by 4:30pm.
Outcome
A 16-person cohort handled with a two-vehicle convoy, a multi-apartment drop-off and a lead-coordinator driver, on a single combined invoice to the parent group.
Real Scenario: Adelaide Cohort of 9, OOL → Hilton Surfers Paradise
The setup
Nine Year 12 schoolies from an Adelaide school land at OOL at 5:40pm on the Saturday, staying at the Hilton Surfers Paradise. The parent group books five weeks ahead.
The vehicle and locked quote
CGC allocates a Transporter quoted on request with Brett driving, for a 6:05pm pickup at OOL arrivals. The pickup falls inside standard hours, so no after-hours fee applies. The Gold Coast Highway is toll-free, so there’s no toll component either.
Saturday evening
The flight lands at 5:34pm and flight monitoring confirms. Brett is positioned at OOL arrivals from 5:25pm with the CGC sign. The group clears baggage by 5:58pm and loading finishes at 6:08pm. The Gold Coast Highway northbound has eased from the mid-afternoon peak and the Transporter reaches the Hilton’s Surfers Paradise Boulevard kerbside at 6:45pm. The hotel concierge meets the group at the lobby for luggage assistance and key collection and Brett confirms the booking reference before departing.
Outcome
A nine-person cohort delivered from OOL to the Hilton in just over an hour door-to-door, on a figure locked five weeks earlier. The group started the week with minimal transport stress.
Named driver weeks ahead. No surge. Parent-bookable.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is a schoolies airport transfer on the Gold Coast?
From for a group of 8–11, Gold Coast Airport (OOL) to Surfers Paradise. Friendship groups of 4–7 travel in the 7-seat Kia Carnival a fixed $135 and pickups of 1–3 in a sedan a fixed $105. Pricing is per vehicle, not per schoolie and cohorts of 12+ are quoted per vehicle across a coordinated manifest. The quote is locked at booking. No surge across Schoolies week.
Can the whole group fit in one vehicle?
For 8–11 schoolies, the 12-seater Transporter handles the manifest in a single trip with luggage for the full week. For 4–7, the Kia Carnival. For 1–3, a sedan. For 12+, a coordinated multi-vehicle manifest with a lead-coordinator driver.
Is the price really locked during Schoolies week?
Yes. The quote is a fixed published figure and locked at booking and CGC doesn’t run surge pricing at any time of year — including the whole of Schoolies week. Any after-hours fee on a pre-dawn return pickup is inside the locked quote and there’s no last-minute booking surcharge.
Why do most Schoolies groups fly into OOL rather than Brisbane?
Distance. Gold Coast Airport is 30–45 minutes from Surfers Paradise on the toll-free Gold Coast Highway; Brisbane Airport is roughly two hours up the M1 with a toll. If you’re travelling in peak periods, allow up to 2 hours for the run. OOL runs direct services from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth, which covers where most Schoolies cohorts come from and the compact single-level terminal makes meeting a group of eleven far easier than a larger airport.
How does CGC handle OOL congestion during Schoolies week?
The Saturday afternoon pattern is predictable — the 3pm–5pm window is the peak. Named drivers are positioned at the arrivals concourse 15–20 minutes before the flight lands and meet the group with a CGC sign. The Gold Coast Highway northbound carries heavy Schoolies traffic through Palm Beach and Burleigh, so the pickup buffer is extended where peak conditions warrant.
How does apartment tower pickup work?
The named driver knows the specific building pickup and drop-off point before the booking — Q1’s Hamilton Avenue porte cochère, Soul’s Esplanade kerbside lobby, the Hilton’s Boulevard kerbside, Mantra Legends’ Boulevard porte cochère, Mantra Sun City on Cavill Avenue, Crowne Plaza on Old Burleigh Road. The night-before SMS confirms the exact entry point.
What about pre-dawn return departures?
Returns cluster on the following Friday to Sunday, frequently on early-morning flights, so 4am–6am pickups from Surfers Paradise apartments are common. Any after-hours fee for a pickup between 9pm and 5am is inside the locked quote, the driver is allocated weeks ahead and the night-before SMS confirms the pre-dawn pickup time.
How much luggage does a schoolies group bring?
More than a typical seven-day holiday — week-long clothing, swimwear, accommodation supplies, beach gear and electronics. Each schoolie typically brings one to two large suitcases plus carry-on and a daypack, so a group of nine is 9–18 large suitcases plus nine carry-on and nine daypacks. The Transporter’s cargo handles that manifest in one trip.
What if the flight is delayed?
Automatic flight monitoring is built into every inbound booking, so the driver’s pickup adjusts in real time at no extra charge. Neither the schoolies nor the booking parent needs to call — the system tracks the change and the driver waits at the arrivals hall.
Can a parent book and pay for the transfer?
Yes — parent-bookable transfers are standard. The parent provides the group manifest, flight details, accommodation address and a contact mobile and settles payment by card or splits it across the parent group. The schoolies don’t need to manage any payment method, rideshare account or app on the day.
Are CGC drivers experienced with schoolies groups?
Yes — CGC runs Schoolies every year. Drivers are professional, patient and used to the energy of a Year 12 group on its first day and the Transporter suits the group dynamic: everyone in one vehicle, one driver, a calm coordinated arrival at Surfers. All drivers are licensed under Queensland Booked Hire arrangements administered by Queensland Transport and Main Roads.
Can we drop schoolies at different accommodation addresses?
Yes. Groups staying across two or three apartment buildings are handled on the same Transporter with sequential drop-offs — flag each address at booking and the route is built around the manifest.
How are cohorts of 12+ handled?
As a coordinated multi-vehicle manifest with a lead-coordinator driver. Twelve to fourteen is a Transporter plus a Carnival; 15–18 is two Transporters or a Transporter plus two Carnivals; 19–25 is two to three Transporters plus support vehicles. All vehicles reach Surfers in the same window, with the lead driver coordinating timing.
How far ahead should we book?
Four to eight weeks ahead for an 8–11 Transporter booking and 8–12 weeks for larger cohorts of 12+ to lock the vehicle mix and per-vehicle quote across Schoolies week. No last-minute booking surcharge — the same rate today as four weeks ahead.
Do schools and parent groups book directly?
Yes. School cohort coordinators and parent groups regularly organise schoolies transport under a single booking, invoiced as a single combined figure to the nominated billing contact and line-itemised per vehicle.
Can we book the return at the same time?
Yes and it’s standard practice. Booking both legs together locks the quote in both directions and the return leg inherits flight monitoring. Particularly useful for a tired group heading home end-of-week, often on a pre-dawn departure with the after-hours fee already in the locked quote.
