Where the Taxi Rank Is at Gold Coast Airport
The airport’s transport page puts the taxi rank at the southern end of the terminal, near International Arrivals, across from Rydges Gold Coast Airport. There’s no booking: you join the queue and take the next cab. Uber’s pickup zone is at the southern end too, just outside Domestic Arrivals, and other rideshare apps use the kerbside pickup points near Departures.

What a Taxi Costs From Gold Coast Airport
Queensland sets the maximum taxi fares for South East Queensland. From 1 July 2026 the meter starts at $3.80 on weekdays from 7am to 7pm and $6.20 at all other times, then adds $2.77 a kilometre and $1.04 for every minute the taxi isn’t moving. Taxi estimates are the start fee plus $2.77 a km at Queensland’s maximum fares from 1 July 2026; time stopped in traffic and any airport fee are extra. CGC fares are fixed per vehicle, GST included, with meet and greet inside arrivals.
The meter rises with the clock as well as the distance: the higher start fee applies on weekends, public holidays and outside 7am to 7pm, and every minute in M1 traffic adds $1.04. A CGC fare is fixed when you book and doesn’t change with traffic or a delayed flight.
Baby Seats: Taxis vs a Booked Transfer
Under Queensland’s child restraint exemptions, taxis, rideshare and other personalised transport don’t have to carry child restraints. A baby under 1 can travel on the lap of someone 16 or older, and a child aged 1 to under 7 can use the seat belt, in the back seat when the vehicle has two or more rows. A taxi company can fit a restraint if you pre-book one with enough notice, or you can bring your own.
CGC fits one for every child, booked in the form: a rear-facing baby seat from newborn, a forward-facing child seat or a booster, $35 each, fitted and checked before pickup. When a Taxi Makes Sense — and When to Book Ahead
- Take a taxi for a short hop with light bags: Coolangatta, Kirra, Tugun or Tweed Heads are a few kilometres away, and the rank is quick in daylight.
- Book ahead with a family: the Kia Carnival seats up to 7 with up to 5 child seats fitted, and takes up to 9 large suitcases with 1–4 aboard (7 with five, 6 with six or seven).
- Book ahead for a long run: Kingscliff, Cabarita Beach, Byron Bay or Brisbane Airport, where a fixed fare takes the meter and the traffic out of it.
- Book ahead for a late or very early flight: the driver is already tracking the flight, and the quote shows any after-hours surcharge before you pay.
- Book ahead to be met: after a long flight, the driver is inside arrivals with your name on a sign, and helps with the bags to the car.
