Sanctuary Cove is the one address on the Gold Coast where the airport question genuinely has two answers. Everywhere from Main Beach south, Gold Coast Airport wins on both time and cost and it isn’t close. From here the two are within about fifteen minutes and $40 of each other, which means your airline and your route decide it rather than your postcode. That is worth knowing before you book flights, not after.
This guide covers both airports, honest drive times, how the gated-estate access works and the detail particular to a resort where half the departing guests are travelling with golf clubs. Written by CGC Airport Transfers, a pre-booked private operator across the northern Gold Coast daily.
- ✔ A fixed $130 sedan to OOL, $190 sedan to BNE — GST included
- ✔ Gateway Motorway toll inside the Brisbane price
- ✔ Both airports within reach — the northern position keeps Brisbane competitive
- ✔ Driver cleared through the Sanctuary Cove gatehouse, collection at the resort entrance
- ✔ Golf clubs, prams and oversized luggage carried in the Carnival or Transporter
- ✔ Flight monitored on every airport pickup, wait time not charged
About InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort
InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort sits inside the gated Sanctuary Cove estate at Hope Island, on the northern Gold Coast between the Coomera River and the Broadwater. It is a low-rise resort in the Queensland colonial style — timber verandahs, white balustrades and pitched roofs set through landscaped grounds rather than a tower on a beachfront.
The signature feature is the one-acre freshwater beach lagoon with its own sand, which is unusual on the Gold Coast and the reason a lot of families choose it over an ocean address. Around it sit multiple pools, a day spa, tennis, several restaurants and bars and substantial conference and event space. The Marine Village, the marina and two championship golf courses are all within the estate.
Quick answer: InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort is a low-rise resort inside the gated Sanctuary Cove estate at Hope Island, northern Gold Coast. It is about 50 km from Gold Coast Airport and about 62 km from Brisbane Airport.

Gated estate access
Sanctuary Cove is a private estate with a security gatehouse on the entry road, so a transfer here isn’t a matter of pulling up at a kerb on a public street. Give us the resort name and your room number when you book and the arrangements at the gate are handled on our end before the vehicle arrives — you don’t need to call the gatehouse or meet a driver outside the estate.
The practical effect on timing is small but real: allow a couple of minutes at the gate and a couple more on the internal roads to the resort porte cochère, which sits well inside the grounds. We build that into the pickup time rather than the fare.
It is also the main reason guests here pre-book rather than opening an app. A rideshare driver unfamiliar with the estate can end up at the wrong entry or waiting outside it, which is a poor start to a morning with a flight to catch.
Who Sanctuary Cove Suits
| Traveller | Why it works |
|---|---|
| Golfers | Two championship courses inside the estate — the single most common reason for a stay here |
| Families | The freshwater beach lagoon gives young children safe sand and shallow water without surf |
| Boat Show and marina visitors | The marina and Marine Village are inside the estate, walking distance from the resort |
| Conference and incentive groups | Substantial function space in a resort setting, with golf and marina activities on site |
| Theme park families | Movie World, Wet’n’Wild and Dreamworld are all closer from here than from any beachfront hotel |
| Brisbane-bound travellers | The northern position makes BNE a realistic choice rather than a penalty |
Sanctuary Cove to Gold Coast Airport (OOL)
Quick answer: Gold Coast Airport is about 50 km south of the resort. A private transfer takes 45–60 minutes in normal traffic and costs a fixed $130 for a sedan, $160 for a Kia Carnival — GST included, price locked at booking. Airport pickups in the reverse direction are quoted separately.
The run leaves the resort, clears the gatehouse and picks up the M1 southbound, running the length of the coast past Oxenford, Nerang and Robina before the southern beach suburbs and Coolangatta. It is the longest OOL run of any property in our hotel guides, which is precisely why Brisbane competes so well from this address.
Traffic on this route
This is an M1 run, so it lives or dies on the motorway. Southbound weekday afternoons from about 3pm to 6:30pm are the worst of it and the stretch through Nerang and Robina is the usual bottleneck. Friday afternoons and the first afternoon of a school-holiday period can add half an hour. Mornings southbound are generally clear, which suits most departure flights. We allow for the conditions in the pickup time, not the fare and your fixed price does not change.
Sanctuary Cove to Brisbane Airport (BNE)
Quick answer: Brisbane Airport is about 62 km north of the resort. A private transfer takes 55–70 minutes in normal traffic and costs a fixed $190 for a sedan, $240 for a Kia Carnival — Gateway Motorway toll and GST included, price locked at booking. Airport pickups in the reverse direction are quoted separately.
From the estate the route joins the M1 northbound and transfers to the Logan Motorway and then the Gateway Motorway for either terminal. Brisbane’s Domestic and International terminals are separate buildings several minutes apart, so specify which one at booking. The Gateway toll sits inside your quoted price.
Traffic on this route
Northbound weekday mornings carry Brisbane commuter traffic from about 6am to 9am, which is unfortunately when most departure flights want you moving. Allow toward the upper end of the range on a weekday and expect the clearest run before 6am. Southbound afternoons peak from 3pm to 6:30pm. Friday is heaviest both ways and long weekends can push past 80 minutes.
Arriving at Brisbane Airport
On inbound legs an SMS reaches you before landing with the exact meet point and terminal instructions and your flight is monitored so an early or delayed arrival needs no call from you. Brisbane Airport pickups are quoted separately from the prices above — put both directions on one reservation and both figures are confirmed upfront before you pay.
Which Airport From Sanctuary Cove?
| Factor | Gold Coast Airport (OOL) | Brisbane Airport (BNE) |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from the resort | ~50 km | ~62 km |
| Typical drive time | 45–60 min | 55–70 min |
| Private sedan, resort to airport | approx. $130 | approx. $190 (toll included) |
| Kia Carnival, resort to airport | approx. $160 | approx. $240 |
| Airport to resort | Quoted separately — access fee applies | Quoted separately — access fee applies |
| Route type | M1 south the length of the coast, toll-free | M1 north, Logan then Gateway Motorway, toll inside the quote |
| Best for | Domestic east-coast flights, New Zealand, some international | Broader international network, more airline choice, more daily frequency |
| Airport arrival before departure | 2 hrs domestic / 3 hrs international | 2 hrs domestic / 3 hrs international, plus drive |
This is the closest call on the Gold Coast. Around fifteen minutes and $40 separate the two in a sedan, which is small enough that the flight schedule should decide rather than the transfer. If Brisbane offers a direct international route, a better connection or simply a departure time that doesn’t have you leaving at 4am, take it — the penalty from Sanctuary Cove is modest in a way it never is from Surfers or Coolangatta. Gold Coast Airport still wins outright when the fares and times are comparable and it wins by more as the vehicle gets larger. Route detail for each sits on the Gold Coast Airport route hub and the Brisbane Airport route hub.
Fleet, Luggage and Pricing
Pricing is per vehicle, not per person. Slide or tap to compare capacity and both airport prices.
| Vehicle | Capacity | Luggage | To Gold Coast Airport (OOL) | To Brisbane Airport (BNE) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan or similar | 1–3 | Up to 2 large suitcases | a fixed $130 | a fixed $190 |
| 7-seat Kia Carnival | Up to 7 | Up to 6 large suitcases | a fixed $160 | a fixed $240 |
Need more than 7 seats? The 12-seat VW Transporter carries 8–11 passengers and up to 10 large cases — quoted on request.
Every price includes GST and Brisbane runs include the Gateway toll. These are resort-to-airport figures; airport pickups are quoted separately because inbound legs carry an airport access fee. Parties larger than 11 travel as multi-vehicle bookings on one reservation. An after-hours fee applies to pickups between 9pm and 5am; the prices shown assume standard operating hours of 5am to 9pm.
Golf clubs
Worth its own note here, because two courses inside the estate mean clubs are on more departures from this resort than from anywhere else we collect. Golf bags travel in the Kia Carnival or the 12-seater Transporter, not the sedan — a sedan with two passengers and two sets of clubs runs out of boot before it runs out of seats. Flag the number of bags at booking and the right vehicle is allocated rather than discovered at the porte cochère on the morning.
Child seats
Queensland’s child restraint rules carry an exemption for booked hire and taxi services, so a seat is not mandatory in our vehicles — but we provide and fit them anyway at $35 per seat, itemised inside your locked quote. Rear-facing seats, forward-facing seats and boosters are all available, fitted and safety-checked before pickup, with up to 5 seats in the Kia Carnival. Give us the children’s ages at booking and bring your own and we will allow fitting time — full detail on our child seats page.
Prams and oversized items
Prams travel on every vehicle. Surfboards, bike boxes and anything oversized go in the Carnival or Transporter — the Carnival takes up to three boards in one or two bags alongside passengers and luggage. Mention it at booking.
Private Transfer vs Rideshare, Taxi and Public Transport
| Option | To OOL | To BNE | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| CGC private transfer | approx. $130 sedan | approx. $190 sedan | Price locked at booking, gatehouse arranged, driver allocated ahead of time; airport pickups quoted separately |
| Rideshare | Dynamic pricing | Dynamic — long run, surge exposure | Two long motorway runs with surge exposure and a driver unfamiliar with the estate can end up at the wrong entry |
| Taxi | Metered | Metered plus tolls | The meter runs through the M1 peak and on a 50–62 km run a metered fare can finish well above our locked quote |
| Public transport | Drive or taxi to Helensvale, tram south, then bus | Drive or taxi to Helensvale, then Airtrain direct | Nothing walkable from the estate, but the Helensvale Airtrain is a genuine option for Brisbane if you have light luggage |
An honest word on the Airtrain
Unlike most addresses in our guides, public transport here isn’t hopeless. Helensvale station is a short drive away and the Airtrain runs from there directly to both Brisbane terminals. If you are one or two people travelling light and not in a hurry, it is a reasonable option and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. What it doesn’t suit is golf clubs, a family with a pram, an early departure before services start and the need to be somewhere at a fixed time — and it still requires getting out of the estate to the station, which is a taxi or transfer in itself.
Practical Tips for Your Stay
Book flights before you book the transfer
The advice specific to this address. Because both airports are genuinely in play, the money is in the airfare rather than the transfer — a $40 difference in the drive is irrelevant next to a few hundred on tickets or an overnight connection avoided. Decide the airport on the flights and we will cover either.
Check-out and departure timing
Check-out is typically mid-morning; confirm the current time with the resort. If your flight is later, the concierge can hold luggage so you get a final round or a swim at the lagoon rather than sitting in the lobby. Give us the flight number and we set the pickup from it, not from check-out.
The pickup point
Transfers collect from the resort porte cochère, which the driver reaches through the Sanctuary Cove gatehouse and the internal estate roads. Provide your room number at booking so the bell desk can stage your luggage and the gate arrangements are on the record. Your SMS the night before carries the driver’s name, vehicle registration and pickup point.
Boat Show and event weekends
The marina hosts a major annual boat show and event weekends concentrate arrivals and departures into narrow windows. There is no surge on our pricing at any time of year, but vehicles do book out — the Carnival and Transporter especially. Book well ahead for event dates rather than the week before.
Theme parks
The northern position makes this one of the better theme park bases on the coast. Movie World and Wet’n’Wild at Oxenford and Dreamworld at Coomera are all a short run down the M1. If your last day includes a park before an evening flight, tell us at booking and we can route via the park with your luggage staying in the vehicle. Our theme park transfer guide covers the pickup points.
Accessibility
The resort is low-rise with step-free entry at the porte cochère. For accessible room configurations, lagoon and pool access equipment and specific facilities, contact the resort directly — they hold the accurate current detail. Our vehicles are standard sedans, people movers and a Transporter; raise any particular access requirements for the transfer itself at booking so we can confirm what we can accommodate before you commit.
Business, conference and group travel
Fixed pricing, card payment at booking and receipts suited to expense claims. For delegate groups the Transporter handles 8–11 in one run and larger parties go multi-vehicle on one reservation, each vehicle timed to its own flight. Corporate accounts are available by prior approval — see corporate airport transfers.
How to Book
- Book online — select your airport and terminal, date, flight number and vehicle, with InterContinental Sanctuary Cove Resort as the pickup address.
- Add your room number and extras — golf bags, child seats, prams, oversized luggage or a second stop.
- Add the arrival leg if you need it — quoted separately, confirmed alongside your departure price before you pay.
- Pay by card at booking — the price is locked then. No in-car payment.
- Get your confirmation — plus an SMS the night before with driver name, vehicle registration and the exact pickup point.
Your quote is the fare. No surge, no metered fare, no fuel levy — a higher rate applies on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday only.
Sanctuary Cove Transfer FAQs
What does a transfer from Sanctuary Cove to Gold Coast Airport cost?
Around $130 in a sedan for 1–3 passengers, $160 in a Kia Carnival for up to 7. GST is inside the price and the figure is locked when you book.
What does a transfer from Sanctuary Cove to Brisbane Airport cost?
Around $190 in a sedan, $240 in a Kia Carnival. The Gateway Motorway toll and GST are both inside the quoted price.
Which airport should I fly from?
This is the closest call on the Gold Coast — about fifteen minutes and $40 separate the two in a sedan. Let the flights decide rather than the transfer. If Brisbane gives you a direct international route, a better connection or a civilised departure time, take it; the penalty from Sanctuary Cove is modest in a way it never is from Surfers or Coolangatta. Gold Coast Airport wins when fares and times are comparable and wins by more as the vehicle gets larger.
How does the driver get through the Sanctuary Cove gate?
It’s handled on our end before the vehicle arrives — give us the resort name and your room number at booking and you don’t need to call the gatehouse or walk out to meet a driver. Allow a couple of minutes at the gate and a couple more on the internal roads to the porte cochère; we build that into the pickup time, not the fare.
Where exactly does the driver collect me?
At the resort porte cochère, inside the estate. Include your room number when booking so the bell desk can stage your luggage. Your SMS the night before confirms the driver’s name, vehicle registration and pickup point.
Why are airport pickups priced separately?
Collecting a passenger at an airport carries an airport access fee, which the outbound direction does not attract. Rather than average it across both legs, we quote each direction on its own so you see exactly what you are paying. Book both legs on one reservation and both figures are confirmed upfront.
How long are the drives to each airport?
Gold Coast Airport is typically 45–60 minutes across the 50 km on the M1 south. Brisbane Airport is typically 55–70 minutes across the 62 km via the Logan and Gateway motorways. Weekday commuter peaks and Friday traffic sit at the upper end of both ranges and long weekends can exceed them. Your fixed price does not change either way.
What time will I be collected for my flight?
We aim to have you at the airport 2 hours before a domestic departure and 3 hours before an international one. The pickup time is that lead plus the drive — around an hour to either airport, with the gate and internal roads allowed for on top. Give us the flight number at booking and we work the time back from it.
Can you carry golf clubs?
Yes and it’s the most common extra from this resort. Clubs travel in the Kia Carnival or 12-seater Transporter rather than a sedan — two passengers with two sets of clubs will run out of boot in a sedan before running out of seats. Tell us how many bags at booking so the right vehicle is allocated.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing you need to manage. Flights are monitored on every airport pickup and the driver adjusts to your actual landing time. Waiting is not charged — the grace period runs around 30–45 minutes on domestic arrivals and 45 minutes to an hour on international.
Do you provide child seats?
Yes. Booked hire and taxi services are exempt from Queensland’s child restraint requirements, so a seat is not mandatory in our vehicles — but we provide and fit them anyway, at $35 per seat itemised in your locked quote. Rear-facing seats, forward-facing seats and boosters are all available, fitted and safety-checked before pickup, with up to 5 seats in the Kia Carnival.
How much luggage can each vehicle take?
Two large suitcases plus carry-on in the sedan, up to six in the Kia Carnival, up to ten in the 12-seater Transporter. Prams, golf bags and up to three boards in one or two bags travel in the Carnival or Transporter alongside passengers and luggage.
Is rideshare reliable at Sanctuary Cove?
Less so than on the beachfront strip. Both airport runs are long motorway trips with surge exposure, driver numbers positioning out at Hope Island are thinner than in Surfers and a driver unfamiliar with the estate can end up at the wrong entry or waiting outside the gate. It’s the most common reason guests here pre-book rather than opening an app on the morning.
Can I get to the airport on public transport?
For Brisbane, yes — more so than from most addresses we cover. Helensvale station is a short drive and the Airtrain runs from there directly to both Brisbane terminals. It suits one or two people travelling light without a fixed deadline. It doesn’t suit golf clubs, a family with a pram and an early departure before services start and you still need to get out of the estate to the station. Gold Coast Airport by public transport means a tram south then a bus connection, which is a long trip with luggage.
Can I book a very early or late pickup?
Yes, by pre-booking. Pickups between 9pm and 5am carry an after-hours fee and the prices shown here assume standard hours of 5am to 9pm. Your total is confirmed upfront when you book. Pre-dawn runs are also the clearest on both motorways, which matters more here than on a short beachfront transfer.
Can you move a conference or golf group leaving on different flights?
Yes. Multi-vehicle bookings run on one reservation with each vehicle timed to its own flight, so nobody sits at the terminal for three hours and nobody misses a departure. Give us the flight list, headcounts and the number of golf bags and we’ll build it out. Corporate accounts are available by prior approval.
How is payment handled and can I book both legs together?
By card online when you book, which is the point the price is locked — nothing is paid in the vehicle. Booking both legs on one reservation is simpler: both prices are confirmed upfront, with the airport-to-resort leg quoted separately because it carries the airport access fee. Your arrival flight is monitored and an SMS reaches you before landing with the meet point and arrival instructions.
What are the cancellation terms?
More than 24 hours before pickup, a full credit applies. Within 24 hours, no credit. If your airline cancels the flight: full credit with over 4 hours’ notice, 50% between 1.5 and 4 hours, none inside 1.5 hours. Credits are non-refundable. The complete terms are on our About Us page.
Do you cover other Hope Island and northern Gold Coast properties?
Yes — every hotel, resort, villa and private address at Sanctuary Cove, Hope Island, Helensvale, Coomera and across the northern Gold Coast. Our hotel transfer guides index the properties with dedicated pages and the rest are bookable the same way.
