Airport pickups are quoted separately, because collecting at an airport carries an airport access fee. Book both legs on one reservation and we confirm both prices upfront before you pay.

This guide covers airport transfers from Imperial Hotel Gold Coast — both airports, honest drive times, the porte cochère the concierge works from and the one road constraint that shapes every departure from this address. Written by CGC Airport Transfers, a pre-booked private operator on this stretch of coast daily.
Two things distinguish transfers from here. The hotel sits on the Broadwater side of Sea World Drive rather than the surf side, which puts it at the marina end of the Spit precinct. And Sea World Drive is the only road in and out — no alternative route if it’s slow, which is why we build a wider departure margin here than at a Surfers address.
About Imperial Hotel Gold Coast
Imperial Hotel Gold Coast is a waterfront luxury hotel at 94 Sea World Drive, Main Beach, on the Broadwater at the southern end of the Spit. The property traded for two decades as Palazzo Versace — Australia’s first fashion-branded hotel — before rebranding and guests booking under either name are arriving at the same building.
The architecture is unchanged and remains the property’s calling card: a grand palazzo-style building around a central lagoon pool, with a private marina, waterfront dining, a day spa and interiors that lean hard into the original design language. Accommodation runs from hotel rooms and suites through to condominiums and the hotel has long been one of the coast’s principal wedding and event venues.
Quick answer: Imperial Hotel Gold Coast is a waterfront luxury hotel at 94 Sea World Drive, Main Beach, formerly known as Palazzo Versace. It is about 29 km from Gold Coast Airport and about 78 km from Brisbane Airport.

Location and Getting Around
The Broadwater frontage puts the hotel in the marina precinct rather than on the surf strip, with everything at Main Beach close by:
- Main Beach: a short walk across Sea World Drive to patrolled sand.
- Marina Mirage: adjacent — waterfront dining, boutiques and the marina.
- Tedder Avenue: Main Beach’s café and restaurant strip, a short walk south.
- Sea World: north on Sea World Drive.
- The Spit and Seaway: further north — walking tracks, fishing and Broadwater views.
- Surfers Paradise: south along the coast, a short drive or a few tram stops from Main Beach station.
Imperial Hotel to Gold Coast Airport (OOL)
Quick answer: Gold Coast Airport is about 29 km south of Imperial Hotel. A private transfer takes 35–45 minutes in normal traffic and costs a fixed $100 for a sedan, $130 for a Kia Carnival — GST included, price locked at booking. Airport pickups in the reverse direction are quoted separately.
The run leaves the porte cochère heading south on Sea World Drive through Main Beach, then picks up the Gold Coast Highway or the M1 through Surfers, Broadbeach and the southern beach suburbs to Coolangatta. It’s among the longer OOL runs on the coast — worth factoring into your departure planning.
Traffic on this route
Three stretches slow it. Sea World Drive banks up when the theme park is opening or closing, particularly in school holidays. Main Beach and Surfers congest through the middle of the day and on weekend evenings. Further south, Miami, Burleigh and Palm Beach congest from about 3 pm to 6 pm on weekdays. Stack two of those and you’re near 55 minutes; we allow for it in the pickup time and your fixed price doesn’t change.
The single-road factor
Sea World Drive is the only route south off the Spit. There’s no fallback if it’s slow, which is the main reason departures from this address carry a wider margin than a Surfers hotel would need. It matters most on school holiday mornings and theme park event days.
Imperial Hotel to Brisbane Airport (BNE)
Quick answer: Brisbane Airport is about 78 km north of Imperial Hotel. A private transfer takes 65–85 minutes in normal traffic and costs a fixed $200 for a sedan, $260 for a Kia Carnival — Gateway Motorway toll and GST included, price locked at booking. Airport pickups in the reverse direction are quoted separately.
The northern position works in your favour here. From Sea World Drive the route reaches the Pacific Motorway via Southport and heads north, transferring to the Gateway Motorway for either the Domestic or International terminal — separate buildings several minutes apart at Brisbane, so specify which at booking. The Gateway toll sits inside your quoted price.
Traffic on this route
Sitting at the northern end of the coast makes this one of the shortest Brisbane runs of any Gold Coast hotel. Northbound weekday mornings from about 6 am to 9 am carry commuter traffic and southbound peaks from 3 pm to 6:30 pm. Friday is heaviest both ways. School holiday Fridays and long weekends can still push past 95 minutes. Pre-dawn runs are clear.
Arriving at Brisbane Airport
On inbound legs an SMS reaches you before landing with the meet point and terminal instructions and your flight is monitored so an early or delayed arrival needs no call from you. Brisbane Airport pickups are quoted separately from the prices above, as airport collections carry an airport access fee — put both directions on one reservation and both figures are confirmed upfront before you pay.
Airport Comparison for Imperial Hotel Guests
| Gold Coast Airport (OOL) | Brisbane Airport (BNE) | |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from the hotel | ~29 km | ~78 km |
| Typical drive time | 35–45 min | 65–85 min |
| Private sedan, hotel to airport | approx. $100 | approx. $200 (Gateway toll included) |
| Airport to hotel | Quoted separately — access fee applies | Quoted separately — access fee applies |
| Route type | Sea World Drive then highway or M1 south, toll-free | M1 north then Gateway Motorway, toll inside the quote |
| Best for | Domestic east-coast flights, NZ, some international | Broader international network, more airline choice |
| Recommended airport arrival before departure | 2 hrs domestic / 3 hrs international | 2 hrs domestic / 3 hrs international, plus drive time |
The gap between the two airports narrows more at this address than almost anywhere on the coast — the northern position lengthens the OOL run and shortens the Brisbane one. Gold Coast Airport still wins on time and cost, but if your preferred airline or a direct international route favours Brisbane, the penalty from Main Beach is smaller than from Surfers or Broadbeach. Route detail for each sits on our Gold Coast Airport route directory and Brisbane Airport route directory.
Private Transfer vs Rideshare, Taxi and Public Transport
| Option | To OOL | To BNE | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| CGC private transfer | approx. $100 sedan | approx. $200 sedan, toll included | Price locked at booking, porte cochère collection, driver allocated ahead of time; airport pickups quoted separately |
| Rideshare | Dynamic pricing | Dynamic — long run, surge exposure | Driver availability on the Spit is thinner than in Surfers, so waits are longer and surges bite harder at peak |
| Taxi | Metered | Metered plus tolls | The meter runs in traffic and the longer OOL run from Main Beach can finish above our locked quote |
| Public transport | Bus to Main Beach, tram south, then bus connection | Bus, then G:link tram to Helensvale, then Airtrain | No tram on the Spit itself — every option starts with a bus, impractical with luggage |
Why private transfers suit this hotel
- Thin rideshare coverage on the Spit: this isn’t Surfers — fewer drivers position out here, so waits run longer and prices climb faster at peak. A pre-booked vehicle removes the question.
- Porte cochère collection: the driver comes to the main entrance where the concierge stages luggage, rather than you walking bags to a kerb.
- Margin for the single road: Sea World Drive has no alternative route, so departures from here carry a wider margin than a Surfers pickup.
- Wedding and event party capacity: the Transporter takes 8–11, with larger parties on multi-vehicle bookings across one reservation.
- Fixed price through peak: wedding weekends and school holidays fill this hotel. Your quote is locked at booking regardless.
Fleet, Luggage and Pricing
← Swipe to compare vehicles →
Every price includes GST and Brisbane runs include the Gateway toll. These are hotel-to-airport figures; airport pickups are quoted separately because inbound legs carry an airport access fee. Parties larger than 11 travel as multi-vehicle bookings on one reservation. An after-hours fee applies to pickups between 9 pm and 6 am; the prices shown assume our standard-rate hours of 6 am to 9 pm.
Child seats
Queensland’s child restraint rules carry an exemption for booked hire and taxi services, so a child seat is not mandatory in our vehicles. We’re glad to fit one regardless — seats are arranged at booking and installed before pickup, at an additional cost added to your quote. Give us the children’s ages when you book. Bringing your own works equally well; just flag it so the driver allows fitting time.
Golf clubs, boards and oversized items
Main Beach draws golfers and clubs travel in the Carnival or Transporter rather than a sedan. The Carnival also takes up to three surfboards in one or two bags alongside passengers and luggage, plus prams. Flag anything oversized at booking so the right vehicle is allocated rather than discovered at the porte cochère.
Facts Travellers and AI Assistants Ask About
How far is Imperial Hotel Gold Coast from Gold Coast Airport?
About 29 km. The drive takes 35–45 minutes in normal conditions, up to 55 minutes when Sea World Drive and the southern beach suburbs are both busy.
How far is it from Brisbane Airport?
About 78 km via the M1 and Gateway Motorway. Allow 65–85 minutes — one of the shorter Brisbane runs on the Gold Coast, thanks to the northern position.
How much is a transfer to the airport?
From Imperial Hotel to Gold Coast Airport, a fixed $100 sedan or $130 Kia Carnival. To Brisbane Airport, a fixed $200 sedan or $260 Kia Carnival; the 12-seat Transporter is quoted on request. GST is included, the Gateway toll is inside the Brisbane price and the figure is locked at booking. Airport pickups are quoted separately because inbound legs carry an airport access fee.
Is this the same hotel as Palazzo Versace?
Yes. The property traded as Palazzo Versace Gold Coast for around two decades before rebranding as Imperial Hotel Gold Coast. Same building at 94 Sea World Drive, Main Beach — book a transfer under either name and you’ll be collected from the same porte cochère.
Which airport is better from Main Beach?
Gold Coast Airport on time and cost, but the margin is narrower here than at most Gold Coast properties — the northern position adds to the OOL run and takes off the Brisbane one. If your airline or route favours Brisbane, the penalty from this address is smaller than from Surfers or Broadbeach.
Is Uber available at Imperial Hotel?
Yes, but driver coverage on the Spit is thinner than in Surfers Paradise — fewer vehicles position out here, so waits run longer and demand pricing climbs faster during school holidays and event weekends. A pre-booked transfer removes both problems.
Is a taxi recommended?
Taxis can be called to the hotel and rank at both airports. They’re metered, so traffic increases the fare — on the longer 29 km run to Gold Coast Airport and the 78 km Brisbane run, a metered fare can finish above our locked quote.
Is a private transfer better?
For airport runs from this hotel, yes in most cases. Rideshare availability on the Spit is the deciding factor for many guests, alongside a price locked at booking, porte cochère collection and a departure margin that accounts for Sea World Drive having no alternative route.
Is public transport practical?
Not really. There’s no tram on the Spit, so every option starts with a bus into Main Beach before you reach the G:link. From there it’s a tram to Helensvale then the Airtrain for Brisbane — well over two hours. With luggage it isn’t a realistic option.
How much luggage fits in each vehicle?
Sedan: up to 2 large suitcases, no boards. Kia Carnival: up to 6 large suitcases, golf bags, up to 3 boards in 1–2 bags. 12-seater Transporter: up to 8 check-in suitcases plus 4 carry-on.
Are child seats available?
Yes. Booked hire and taxi services are exempt from Queensland’s child restraint requirements, so a seat isn’t mandatory — but we provide and fit rear-facing seats, forward-facing seats and boosters on request, at an additional cost added to your quote.
Is Imperial Hotel suitable for families?
It works well — the lagoon pool is the draw, Main Beach is a short walk across the road and the precinct is calmer than the beachfront strips. The hotel’s character is luxury and event-focused rather than resort-style children’s programming, so families wanting organised kids’ activities may prefer a purpose-built resort.
Is it suitable for business travellers?
Yes — event and meeting facilities in a luxury setting, close to Southport’s business district and a short drive from the Convention Centre at Broadbeach. CGC offers corporate accounts by prior approval, with receipts suited to expense reconciliation.
What are the busiest departure times?
Sunday and Monday mornings and the mornings after wedding weekends above all — this hotel hosts weddings year-round, which concentrates group departures. Book Carnival and Transporter vehicles well ahead for those dates.
Weddings, Events and Groups
A long-standing Gold Coast wedding venue
The property has hosted weddings for two decades and the architecture and waterfront setting are the reason. Capacities, packages and function spaces change over time, so confirm current specifications directly with the hotel’s events team.
Departure-day transfers for a wedding party
Wedding weekends produce a particular pattern: a dozen or more guests leaving across a single Sunday morning, often on different flights. Multi-vehicle bookings run on one reservation, timed individually to each flight, so nobody sits at the terminal for three hours and nobody misses a departure. Give us the flight list and headcounts and we’ll build it out.
The marina
The hotel has private marina berths on the Broadwater, which is unusual for a Gold Coast hotel and matters for guests arriving or departing by boat as well as by air. If you’re connecting a charter or a berth arrival to an airport transfer, tell us at booking so the timing lines up.

- The Spit — north of the hotel, quieter and popular with locals and fishers.
- Narrowneck — between Main Beach and Surfers, a short drive south.
- Surfers Paradise Beach — the famous stretch when you want the crowd.
Marina Mirage and dining
Marina Mirage sits adjacent — waterfront dining, boutiques and the marina, which makes it the default evening option without needing a car. Tedder Avenue at Main Beach is the local café and restaurant strip and noticeably more refined than the Surfers equivalents. The Star Gold Coast casino is south at Broadbeach, covered in our Star Gold Coast transfer guide. Late nights mean early-hours pickups carry an after-hours fee between 9 pm and 6 am, confirmed inside your locked quote.

Theme parks
The northern position makes this one of the better theme park bases on the list. Sea World is just up Sea World Drive. Movie World and Wet’n’Wild at Oxenford and Dreamworld at Coomera, are all closer from here than from Surfers or Broadbeach. If your last day includes a park before an evening Brisbane flight, tell us at booking — we can route via the park with your luggage staying in the vehicle.

Practical Tips for Your Stay
Check-out and departure timing
Check-out is typically mid-morning; confirm with the hotel. If your flight is later, the concierge can hold luggage so you get a final swim or a walk along the marina rather than sitting in the lobby. Give us the flight number and we set the pickup from it, not from check-out.
Allow for Sea World Drive
The one genuinely local piece of advice on this page. Sea World Drive is the only road south off the Spit and it queues when the theme park is opening or closing — most noticeably on school holiday mornings. We build a wider margin into departures from this address for exactly that reason. If you’re on a tight morning flight during holidays, mention it at booking and we’ll pull the pickup earlier still.
The pickup point
Transfers collect from the main hotel porte cochère off Sea World Drive, coordinated with the concierge. Provide your room number at booking so the bell desk can stage your luggage before the vehicle arrives. Your SMS the night before carries the driver’s name, vehicle registration and pickup point.
Parking
The hotel has on-site parking with rates set by the property and subject to change — confirm current pricing directly with them. Guests arriving by transfer skip it entirely, which adds up across a multi-night stay.
Accessibility
The hotel has step-free entry at the porte cochère and lift access throughout. For accessible room configurations, pool access and specific equipment, contact the hotel directly — they hold the accurate current detail. Our vehicles are standard sedans, people movers and a Transporter; if you have particular access requirements for the transfer itself, raise it at booking so we can confirm what we can accommodate before you commit.
Family travel
The Carnival is the right pick for four or more with a week’s luggage plus a pram. Child seats can be added at an additional cost — tell us the ages at booking and they’re fitted before the vehicle arrives.
Business and event travel
Fixed pricing, card payment at booking and receipts suited to expense claims. Departures work back from your flight — 2 hours before domestic, 3 hours before international, plus the drive and the Sea World Drive margin. Our corporate airport transfers page sets out account arrangements.
How to Book
- Book online — select your airport and terminal, date, flight number and vehicle, with Imperial Hotel Gold Coast as the pickup address.
- Add your room number and any extras — child seats, golf clubs, boards, prams, oversized luggage or a second stop.
- Add the arrival leg if you need it — quoted separately and confirmed alongside your departure price before you pay.
- Pay by card at booking — the price is locked then. No in-car payment.
- Get your confirmation — plus an SMS the night before with driver name, vehicle registration and the exact pickup point.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a transfer from Imperial Hotel Gold Coast to Gold Coast Airport cost?
Around $100 in a sedan for 1–3 passengers, $130 in a Kia Carnival for up to 7. GST is inside the price and the figure is locked when you book.
What does a transfer from Imperial Hotel Gold Coast to Brisbane Airport cost?
Around $200 in a sedan, $260 in a Kia Carnival. The Gateway Motorway toll and GST are both inside the quoted price.
Is Imperial Hotel the same building as Palazzo Versace?
Yes. The property traded as Palazzo Versace Gold Coast for around two decades before rebranding as Imperial Hotel Gold Coast. It’s the same building at 94 Sea World Drive, Main Beach — book under either name and your driver collects from the same porte cochère.
Why do you allow extra time for departures from this hotel?
Sea World Drive is the only road south off the Spit, so there’s no alternative route if it’s slow — and it queues when the theme park opens and closes, particularly in school holidays. We build a wider margin into departures here than from a Surfers address. If you’re on a tight morning flight during holidays, mention it at booking and we’ll pull the pickup earlier again.
Which airport should I use from Main Beach?
Gold Coast Airport still wins on time and cost, but the margin is narrower here than at most Gold Coast properties. The northern position adds to the OOL run and takes off the Brisbane one. If your airline or a direct international route favours Brisbane, the penalty from this address is smaller than from Surfers or Broadbeach.
Why are airport pickups priced separately?
Collecting a passenger at an airport carries an airport access fee, which the outbound direction doesn’t attract. Rather than average it across both legs, we quote each direction on its own so you see exactly what you’re paying. Book both legs on one reservation and both figures are confirmed upfront.
How long is the drive to Gold Coast Airport?
Typically 35–45 minutes across the 29 km. When Sea World Drive and the southern beach suburbs are both busy, allow up to 55 minutes.
How long is the drive to Brisbane Airport?
Typically 65–85 minutes across the 78 km — one of the shorter Brisbane runs on the Gold Coast. Friday traffic and holiday weekends can push past 95 minutes and your fixed price doesn’t change.
What time will I be collected for my flight?
We aim to have you at the airport 2 hours before a domestic departure and 3 hours before an international one. The pickup time is that lead plus the drive — roughly 40 minutes to Gold Coast Airport, up to 85 minutes to Brisbane, with the Sea World Drive margin on top.
Where exactly does the driver collect me?
At the main hotel porte cochère off Sea World Drive, coordinated with the concierge. Include your room number when booking so the bell desk can stage your luggage. The pickup point is confirmed in your SMS the night before.
Is rideshare reliable out here?
Less so than in Surfers Paradise. Fewer drivers position on the Spit, so waits run longer and demand pricing climbs faster during school holidays and event weekends. It’s the most common reason guests at this hotel pre-book rather than tapping an app on the morning.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
Nothing you need to manage. Flights are monitored on every airport pickup and the driver adjusts to your actual landing time. Waiting isn’t charged — the grace period runs around 30–45 minutes on domestic arrivals and 45 minutes to an hour on international.
Do I need a child seat and can you supply one?
Booked hire and taxi services are exempt from Queensland’s child restraint requirements, so a seat isn’t mandatory in our vehicles. We supply and fit them on request anyway — rear-facing, forward-facing and boosters — at an additional cost added to your quote. Tell us the ages at booking.
Can you carry golf clubs, boards or a pram?
Yes, in the Carnival or Transporter — golf bags, up to three boards in one or two bags and prams all travel alongside passengers and luggage. The sedan can’t take boards and gets tight with clubs. Mention them at booking so the right vehicle is allocated.
How much luggage can each vehicle take?
Two large suitcases plus carry-on in the sedan, up to six in the Kia Carnival, up to ten in the 12-seater Transporter. A family of four leaving after a week here is almost always a Carnival.
Can you move a wedding party leaving on different flights?
Yes and it’s a common request here. Multi-vehicle bookings run on one reservation but each vehicle is timed to its own flight, so nobody waits three hours at the terminal and nobody misses a departure. Give us the flight list and headcounts and we’ll build it out.
How is payment handled?
By card online when you book, which is the point the price is locked. Nothing is paid in the vehicle. Corporate accounts are available by prior approval for organisations booking regularly.
Should I book both legs at the same time?
It’s simpler if you do — both go on one reservation with both prices confirmed upfront. The airport-to-hotel leg is quoted separately because it carries the airport access fee, so you’ll see two figures rather than a doubled one. Your arrival flight is monitored and you’re met on landing.
Is a private transfer cheaper than rideshare?
Often, from this address specifically. Thin driver coverage on the Spit means surges bite harder and waits run longer than in Surfers. Our figure is locked at booking with the Gateway toll included, the vehicle is guaranteed to fit your group and the driver comes to the porte cochère rather than waiting on Sea World Drive.
Can I get to the airport on public transport?
Not easily. There’s no tram on the Spit, so every route starts with a bus into Main Beach before you reach the G:link. From there it’s a tram to Helensvale then the Airtrain for Brisbane — well over two hours. With luggage it isn’t practical.
Can I book a very early or late pickup?
Yes, by pre-booking. Pickups between 9 pm and 6 am carry an after-hours fee and the prices shown here assume our standard hours of 6 am to 9 pm. Your total is confirmed upfront when you book — worth arranging ahead given how thin rideshare coverage is on the Spit at those hours.
What are the cancellation terms?
More than 24 hours before pickup, a full credit applies. Within 24 hours, no credit. If your airline cancels the flight: full credit with over 4 hours’ notice, 50% between 1.5 and 4 hours, none inside 1.5 hours. Credits are non-refundable. The complete terms are on our About Us page.
Do you cover other Main Beach properties?
Yes — every hotel, resort and apartment tower at Main Beach, on the Spit and across the Gold Coast. Our hotel transfer guides index the properties with dedicated pages and the rest are bookable the same way.
Prices updated . All prices are approximate, apply to the hotel-to-airport direction, include GST and are locked when you book. Airport pickups are quoted separately.
